A pedestrian died when a police car hit him in Warwickshire yesterday.

The man in his 60s suffered a serious head injury in the crash, which happened on Coventry Road, Nuneaton around 8.45pm.

Police were travelling to the scene of an emergency at the time.

Neither of the officers in the vehicle were injured.

The pedestrian died at the scene along the B4113, between the Gipsy Lane and the Griff roundabout.

His next of kin has been informed.

Warwickshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which has started an investigation.

This referral is standard protocol in the event of a death involving police activity.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision, to come forward.

The force said: ‘Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this time.’
