Australian pop superstar Troye Sivan was left shocked and embarrassed by his geographical discovery after assuming the UK had formed its own continent after Brexit.

The Got Me Started singer, 29, is currently on tour across Europe (including the UK) to promote his latest album, Something To Give Each Other, which came out in October 2023.

The former YouTuber already caused a stir during his tour after a particularly scandalous stage routine in Lisbon which involved him kneeling in front of one of his backing dancers while they held the microphone in an X-rated position.

And now it’s his geographical knowledge – or lack thereof – that has fans absolutely howling in disbelief.

The singer-songwriter uploaded a video on TikTok admitting his confusion after consistently referring to his set of shows as the ‘Europe and UK’ tour.

He stitched a video by user @saidhbhbh in which they passionately proclaimed: ‘The UK leaving the EU does not mean the UK has left Europe.’

At this point Troye jumped in, saying: ‘I’m so f**king dumb. This entire Europe and UK tour [in air quotes] I’ve been calling it the Europe and UK tour.’

He then covered his mouth in disbelief.

‘Someone said to me yesterday “Are you staying in Europe for a while?” and I was like “Yeah. Well, we go to the UK tomorrow,”‘ he recalled.

He then slapped his hand over his mouth in further horror. ‘Did I think they invented a new continent called the UK?’

Since the UK voted to leave the European Union in 2016 (and officially departed in 2020) there has been regular confusion about the country’s status among the rest of mainland Europe.

Despite the political estrangement, however, the UK has been and will remain a geographical part of the European continent – for the avoidance of doubt.

Fans shared their reaction to Troye’s hilarious mix-up in the comments, with many validating the experience.

‘Troye, I feel every day u become more relatable, I love you,’ @alk wrote.

‘Legitimately thought the same thing,’ @kelsiecampbell added.

‘Even people from the UK make that mistake, it’s okay,’ @julia echoed.

‘Even people who live here and grew up here get it wrong….you’re not alone!’ @nessynoonaa posted.

Meanwhile, others have pointed out that he is certainly not the first artist to use the Europe and UK tour label.

The pop artist will arrive in Manchester for the UK leg of his tour on June 22 before going on to Glasgow, London and Birmingham.

Talking about his excitement for the tour last month, he told Attitude it’s ‘unlike anything I’ve ever done before’.

‘The show is shaping up to be even beyond my wildest dreams of what I thought one of my shows could ever look like. It’s really going to be something very special for me, at least. And hopefully for everyone who comes,’ he added.

Born in South Africa, Troye moved to Australia at the age of two. He started his YouTube career in 2007 uploading a variety of content including music covers.

Over the years he has accumulated over eight million subscribers.

He released his debut studio album Blue Neighbourhood in 2015, followed by Bloom in 2018 which peaked at number 10 on the Official Album Chart in the UK.
