Predicting Jurassic World Rebirth’s “Shocking” Twist: 5 Possibilities

The official Jurassic World Rebirth plot synopsis teased a shocking twist that could redefine the franchise, which means it’s time to theorize and predict the possible twist. The main story of the fourth Jurassic World movie revolves around Scarlett Johansson’s Zora and her team as they collect DNA samples from the biggest species of dinosaurs on land, air, and sea. This is meant to help humanity create a game-changing drug, but their mission is interrupted as they get stranded on an island with a shipwrecked family. And it is only together that the Jurassic World Rebirth cast makes new discoveries.

The key line in a lot of ways from the Jurassic World Rebirth synopsis is the one that reads, “they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.” That immediately sets up a major twist for the franchise’s seventh movie. There are no clear connections made already, only that it is bad, surprising, and something the public is unaware of. Since its roots go back decades, and Rebirth takes place in 2027 in the Jurassic Park timeline, the implication is that whatever Zora and the others find predates the Jurassic World movies.

That immediately leaves room for speculation to determine what Jurassic World Rebirth‘s shocking twist could be. There are a few major possibilities to discuss when it comes to revelations that could be made and fit the suggested criteria, including some scrapped ideas from the franchise’s past and massive twists that could change everything about the series.

5 Human-Dinosaur Hybrids Exist

A Scrapped Jurassic Park 4 Idea

If there is a theory regarding Jurassic World Rebirth‘s shocking twist that is most common and controversial, it is certainly that the movie is going to make human-dinosaur hybrids an official part of the canon. The Jurassic World movies have already messed with the idea of blending dinosaur and human DNA in different ways, including cloning Maisie Lockwood. So it would be natural on some level for the next installment to push these concepts further and introduce a creature that is a true human-dinosaur hybrid and the creation of secret experimentation.

This is an idea that Jurassic franchise has considered doing for a long time too. When plans for Jurassic Park 4 were trying to get off the ground, Universal hired John Sayles in 2004 after the project’s previous writer exited. He wrote multiple different scripts trying to unlock the right story for a sequel, and one of these Jurassic Park 4 scripts included human-dinosaur hybrids. It was only later on that Steven Spielberg stepped in, scrapped these ideas, and left Jurassic Park 4 with an uncertain future in 2005. However, the possibility of adding controversial hybrids has remained for years.

Jurassic World Rebirth including a variation of the human-dinosaur hybrid idea would be a bold way to reutilize this scrapped idea and attempt to push the franchise in a new direction once again. This would also certainly meet the criteria of being shocking for the characters and audiences, as its something no one has seen before. The discovery that someone experimented on humans and dinosaurs to create these hybrids and left them hidden for years would be shocking.

This could still be true even if the human-dinosaur hybrids were already dead after potentially decades of isolation. The characters could be left to try and figure out what to do with this new information, such as keep it a secret or inform some mega corporation to the discovery for a large payday. This would even allow the hybrids to be reborn for the third act or a potential sequel, with their rebirth a potential answer for Jurassic World Rebirth‘s title meaning.

4 A Third Secret Island

A Long-Theorized Location

Another possibility for Jurassic World Rebirth‘s shocking twist could be that there is a secret island with more dinosaur creations. The movie is confirmed to take place primarily on an undisclosed island, although eagle-eyed observers identified some InGen logos behind Mahershala Ali’s character in the first-look photos. This has brought up speculation that the group has made it to an island that secretly belonged to InGen back in the day, leaving them to uncover previously unknown dinosaurs.

Jurassic World Rebirth could be the movie to then introduce Site C or the third Isla island. After only exploring Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna previously, there has always been some belief that there could be additional InGen outposts that were off-the-books and more secretive. It might only be after exploring the island that the group realizes they are now part of another secret island that was part of Hammond and InGen’s original research timeline.

The possibilities for what a secret third island could contain are endless when it comes to dinosaur creations. The new human characters could find a graveyard of all the failed dinosaur creations and clones that InGen didn’t get right over the years. They could also find the first dinosaur hybrids from before Jurassic World or any terrifying mutants that Lockwood and Hammond’s team could have come up with in secret. That leaves plenty of room for Jurassic World Rebirth‘s third act to include significant revelations and the introduction of a “sinister” new mega-dino threat.

3 There’s A Dinosaur Virus That Could Make Humans Extinct

The DNA Mission Is For The Cure

There is also a theory that Jurassic World Rebirth‘s twist could involve the discovery of a new virus from the dinosaurs that could wipe out humanity. The general plot is already known to revolve around dinosaurs that are dying off due to not having the right habitats to live in. Meanwhile, humanity is mysteriously chasing after a drug created by dinosaurs that has “life-saving” abilities. These two elements could be connected and bring about the big twist that dinosaurs carry a disease that is deadly to humans, and it is on the precipice of spreading.

This would be an intriguing development for Jurassic World Rebirth on a number of levels. For starters, it would create an even bigger conflict between humanity and dinosaurs, as it implies that the two species are not meant to live on Earth simultaneously. There is also a certain amount of realism that Jurassic World Rebirth could add through this storyline with audiences in a post-COVID environment. The virus-heavy storyline could be timely and impactful then if done correctly.

The real question with this option is what would the outcome of the dinosaur virus mean for Jurassic World Rebirth‘s story. The big twist could be that humanity is looking to create a cure for themselves by using the dino DNA. Or, it could be revealed that the DNA samples will be used to create a virus to kill all remaining dinosaurs instead. Either option would put the human characters in fascinating predicaments where they could have to debate the morality of their decision and look for any alternate solutions that don’t end with one species becoming extinct.

2 Somehow John Hammond Is Alive

A Younger Clone?

If Jurassic World Rebirth‘s twist really is shocking, then the reveal that John Hammond is still alive could be an unexpected option. Richard Attenborough’s character from Jurassic Park and The Lost World has a great legacy and reputation in the franchise. He is also confirmed to have died shortly after the original sequel, but the cause of death was never revealed. That leaves some wiggle room for the character to return, even though Attenborough no longer can reprise the role.

There are a few different ways Jurassic World Rebirth could try to pull off the twist that John Hammond is still alive. One could be that he faked his death after The Lost World to continue his research in peace and without public scrutiny after the San Diego incidents. The issue with this is that he would be over 100 years old by the time this story takes place. This would also require recasting Attenborough’s role, which would be difficult. But, perhaps Hammond also utilized some of his life-creating/changing research to aid his own life expectancy and appearance.

Another option, albeit even riskier, is that John Hammond returns as a younger version of himself through cloning. The Jurassic movies already established that human cloning broke up his and Lockwood’s partnership, but Dominion also changed the details further. It’s not unreasonable to think Rebirth could do the same and reveal Hammond was actually involved in the human cloning program, even finding a way to clone himself, although with a younger appearance. Could Jonathan Bailey’s Tim lookalike character really be a young John Hammond clone? That would be one way to preserve the surprise.

Jonathan Bailey’s character is officially credited as Dr. Henry Loomis

As for how this would fit the sinister requirement, it could mean Jurassic World Rebirth using a portrayal of Hammond that is more in line with Michael Crichton’s original novel. Whereas Attenborough’s performance made him more funny and kind, he is much more mean and evil in the book. Perhaps Hammond was much worse when he was younger and that’s the side of him that the characters and audiences would see.

1 A New Lost World With Dinosaurs

Where They’ve Been Safe

A final suggestion for Jurassic World Rebirth‘s shocking twist is that the movie will include the discovery an entirely new “Lost World” for the dinosaurs. Instead of just going to another new island or research facility, the franchise could be on the cusp of going much bigger. Following something like Land of the Lost or Hollow Earth in the Monsterverse, Jurassic World Rebirth could reveal access to an entirely different world where dinosaurs have lived in isolation for decades without anyone knowing.

This would be an intriguing option for Jurassic World Rebirth‘s story to explore, especially in terms of what it could mean for the franchise’s future. It might mean that the days of dinosaurs existing in humanity’s world are nearing an end. The series could then decide to fully explore the new location and have humans go to this Lost World that dinosaurs have lived in for all this time.

The difficulty with this option is the “sinister” qualification that the synopsis provides. This would be a great outcome for the dinosaurs in reality, as they’d have a home free from humanity. There would need to be some sort of inherently evil part of this world and what it meant for dinosaurs or humanity, or both, and that’s not abundantly clear. So if this is the route that Jurassic World Rebirth takes, hopefully it all makes sense in the end.
