Provide Evidence Of Alleged Corruption — PSC To IGP Egbetokun

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to provide evidence of allegations bordering on irregularities and corruption in the police recruitment process, levelled against the commission.

The PSC’s demand comes six days after the IGP raised the alarm on the irregularities found in the released names of successful candidates in the ongoing 2022/23 Police Constables Recruitment Exercise.

Also, the IGP had alleged the disappearance of the names of screened candidates who were successful to the last stage by the commission and the insertion of unqualified participants in the approved list.

Reacting in a statement on Friday, signed by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani said, “The Commission demands that the Police should provide verifiable evidence to prove the allegations peddled against it as it is obvious that it is a case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it.”

Ani noted that the Commission has studied the issues around the “successfully concluded recruitment exercise and has come to the conclusion that even after the Supreme Court Judgment, the Police is reluctant to allow the Commission perform this constitutional assignment.”
