Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver star Ed Skrein explains how the fate of his character Admiral Atticus Noble will be made clearer in the upcoming director’s cut. As director Zack Snyder has done with numerous projects throughout his career, both Rebel Moon films are receiving director’s cuts. They are expected to release on Netflix later in 2024 and will not only be longer and contain more material, but will be rated R, unlike the PG-13 cuts currently available to stream.
While speaking with Collider, Skrein was asked if Noble is truly dead after Kora (Sofia Boutella) beheads the villain with a door in The Scargiver. Kora already killed Noble in the first Rebel Moon, only to have him revived by the Imperium. Skrein confirmed that “he’s dead,” making it clear that even the Imperium’s technology won’t be enough to save Noble this time. He also teased how Snyder’s director’s cut will make Noble’s fate more apparent than in the PG-13 version. Read Skrein’s comments below:
I think in the extended cut it will be more clear because they’ll be able to show the effects of what happened to him. So, yeah, he’s dead. He’s gone.
How Noble’s Death Will Impact Rebel Moon’s Sequels
If Snyder gets to continue expanding the Rebel Moon franchise, the sequels will need a new villain for Kora and the other heroes to contend with following Noble’s permanent demise. Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) is the franchise’s overarching antagonist as the tyrannical leader of the Imperium and the one who engineered the deaths of the royal family. Other than an interaction with the revived Noble on an icy astral plane at the end of the first Rebel Moon, Balisarius has only appeared in flashbacks, revealing his past with Kora and how he rose to power.
Snyder has shared that he envisions the franchise as a trilogy, with every two films serving as an installment in the trilogy. This means Part One: A Childof Fire and Part Two: The Scargiver are the first part of the trilogy and Noble was the villain of this first installment. If Balisarius is the endgame villain, he likely won’t be the main threat Kora and her allies face until the fifth and sixth films. With Noble gone and Balisarius still operating from the shadows, he will likely send a new character after Kora and the growing resistance against the Imperium.
Rebel Moon 3: Zack Snyder’s Confirmation & Everything We Know
Zack Snyder’s creative partnership with Netflix will continue in Rebel Moon 3, and there are already exciting updates regarding the sci-fi sequel.
Rebel Moon – Part 2‘s ending sets up the third film being about the hunt for Princess Issa, who General Titus (Djimon Hounsou) reveals is still alive. Balisarius would definitely want to find Princess Issa, as her survival is a threat to his power, and could expose that he’s ruling in the name of the king he betrayed. Balisarius can send a member of the Imperium even more formidable than Noble to complete this task, but when this individual fails, Balisarius will eventually have to emerge from the shadows and take on Kora and the resistance himself.
