Redneck Futurama Parody Music Video Has The Planet Express Crew (& The Robot Devil) Reimagined With A Catchy Tune

A new fan video shows alternate versions of the characters from Futurama in a redneck music video parody. Futurama follows characters who live in New New York in the 31st century, including Fry, Leela, and Bender, who all work for the delivery service Planet Express. The series premiered on Fox in 1999, where it aired until 2003. After a revival on Comedy Central, the show was brought back once again on Hulu in 2023, with Futurama season 13 already confirmed to be on the way.

The YouTube video from demonflyingfox adapts the Futurama characters in a live-action style. Just like in the animated series, the parody shows Fry waking up in the future. The Planet Express ship has also been changed, and looks like an old van. However, it is still green and able to travel in space. Leela is also still the captain of the ship. All of the characters are now sporting redneck outfits, such as vests and simple white t-shirts. Bender also appears in the video, wearing a red hat and a sleeveless white shirt, but drinking moonshine instead of beer. The video can be watched below:

What The Redneck Music Video Parody Means For Futurama

A Different Take On The Classic Characters

Even though the music video parody puts the Futurama characters in a completely different setting, it still finds a way to stay true to the essence of who the characters are. While there are some key differences, such as Fry being more muscular and Bender drinking moonshine, the video still makes it feel like they act like the same characters from the animated series. It’s easy to imagine that if the show was set in the country instead of New New York, this is how the characters would turn out.

Every Known Universe In Futurama’s Multiverse Explained

Futurama has formally expanded its multiverse with the season 12 finale, seemingly confirming that each of these timelines exists within the universe.

The video also gives an idea of what the characters could possibly look like in live-action, instead of series creator Matt Groening’s classic style. For the human characters like Fry, Hermes, Amy, and Scruffy, they look pretty similar to their animated versions. However, with characters like Dr. Zoidberg, the video put its own spin on him by giving him a mostly human body. The video also had to decide between giving Leela one or two eyebrows, since the animated version doesn’t have any.

Our Take On The Futurama Redneck Music Video Parody

A Fun Look At An Alternate Universe

Since the video did a good job of capturing the essence of the Futurama characters, it makes it more fun to see them in a different setting. It also shows that a fun idea for the show would be to have an episode exploring what it would be like if the characters had always lived in the country instead of the city. It could be a fun what if scenario, or a trip to an alternate universe.

It was also nice to see that the video included some of the popular recurring characters outside of the Planet Express crew, like the Robot Devil. The parody really puts in perspective that no matter the time or the place, the Futurama characters can easily fit in anywhere, which has led to so many crazy adventures on the show.
