Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU Return Will Finally Answer An Annoying 9-Year-Old Age Of Ultron Mystery In Marvel Theory

Even though Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the MCU as an entirely new character, his return could explain some unanswered mysteries from the franchise’s history, including one from 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. As well as detailing the Avengers’ battle against the titular artificial intelligence, Ultron, 2015’s The Avengers sequel teased some huge future storylines for the MCU. The events of Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were hinted at through visions, but these presented their own set of mysteries.

The Avengers’ visions in Age of Ultron were caused by the meddling of the Scarlet Witch, with Elizabeth Olsen making her first full appearance as Wanda Maximoff. This affected Natasha Romanoff, Thor, Bruce Banner and Steve Rogers, but Tony Stark’s vision in Age of Ultron’s opening was the most shocking. Stark saw the other members of the Avengers dead after an epic battle, teasing their fight against the Mad Titan, Thanos, in Phase 3, but this also created new questions that are yet to be answered in the MCU.

The Identity Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron’s Mystery Woman Still Hasn’t Been Revealed

Tony Stark’s Vision In Age Of Ultron Created An Annoying MCU Mystery

Tony Stark saw all his friends dead in his Avengers: Age of Ultron vision, but there were also some unknown characters on the battlefield. Perhaps most notably, the camera lingers for some time on a mysterious woman lying dead next to Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, the identity of whom has never been revealed. It’s possible that this woman could simply be a random soldier, perhaps working for SHIELD, SWORD or another organization, but the fact that she is focused on for some time suggests she may have some greater, hidden significance.

Tony Stark’s Age Of Ultron Vision May Have Foreshadowed The MCU’s Doctor Doom

Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Could Have Been Teased In Avengers: Age Of Ultron

One popular theory on the rise suggests that Tony Stark’s vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron may have provided a glimpse into another reality, perhaps one where all of Stark’s friends die, pushing him to eventually become the tyrannical Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr. was confirmed to be debuting as the MCU’s Doctor Doom at this year’s SDCC presentation, and since this announcement, there’s been speculation he could play a variant of Tony Stark who becomes the iconic supervillain. This could tie perfectly into Stark’s Age of Ultron vision.

2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness established dreams to be visions into alternate realities of the multiverse, and the same could be said for magic-induced visions. This means that Tony Stark might have literally been experiencing the same as his variant, and there’s no doubt that, had Stark lost everyone he loved in a brutal battle, he may have taken extreme actions to protect the rest of the world. Connecting Doctor Doom to Stark’s vision in Age of Ultron could create the opportunity for Marvel to answer exactly who that mystery woman next to Hawkeye is.

Doctor Doom’s MCU Debut Could Finally Explain Who Age Of Ultron’s Mystery Woman Is

Avengers: Age Of Ultron’s Mystery Woman Could Be Connected To Doctor Doom

Since the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, there has been a huge amount of speculation about whom this mystery woman next to Hawkeye is. The prospect of this annoying unanswered question finally being addressed with Robert Donwey Jr.’s return to the MCU is very exciting, particularly if this woman does carry a special significance for either Tony Stark or Victor Von Doom. One of the most popular theories suggests this woman could be a grown-up Morgan Stark, which would be a brilliant way to bring Iron Man’s daughter back to the MCU.

While it’s possible this woman could be connected to Tony Stark in some way, Marvel Studios also has the opportunity to develop Doctor Doom’s own history by connecting her to the new MCU villain. If she is revealed to be someone such as Valeria Von Doom, whether that be Valeria, Doom’s lover from Latveria, or Valeria, a version of Doctor Doom’s daughter from Marvel Comics, this could integrate Doctor Doom as a figure throughout the MCU’s history. This would increase Doctor Doom’s threat in the MCU, and give even more weight to Tony Stark’s vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
