Lenny Kravitz performed at Wembley Stadium before kickoff at the Champions League final on Saturday.

The 60-year-old performed shortened versions of three songs in a six-minute performance before Real Madrid took on Borussia Dortmund in the widely watched game.

The singer played a couple of his biggest hits for football fans, including Fly Again and Are you Gonna Go My Way.

He also played Human from his brand new album, Blue Electric Light, which came out on May 24.

According to tournament reps, over 100million fans tuned in from across the world to see the rock icon’s performance, with approximately 90,000 of those in the stadium.

Wembley was already full of electric energy when Kravitz began his performance, leading some fans to question if the set really added anything to the event.

X user @tariqpanja posted: ‘Nothing against Lenny Kravitz but he’s just silenced the Yellow Wall which was in full footballing voice. Hard for organisers but the music acts really kill the football moment.’

@philmcnulty agreed, writing: ‘Borussia Dortmund fans were creating a brilliant pre-match atmosphere of their own and now they have been silenced by a deafening Lenny Kravitz medley. Let the fans create and enjoy the atmosphere.’

@fullstopPicks was clearly irritated by the performance, writing: ‘Absolutely 0 need for a whole ass concert in the lead up to the biggest game in club football lol’

The discourse comes among calls from many to stop trying to add additional commercial appeal to football games. While American sports like American Football (NFL) have always included musical acts and other flashy additions, like cheerleaders, many think that football should remain purely about the sport.

Following his Champions League final appearance, Kravitz will embark on a summer European arena and festival tour, beginning June 23 at Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany.

He’ll also play his new songs for U.S. audiences at his Blue Electric Light Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM, which is scheduled for October 18-19, 23, 25, and 26.
