A major London Underground station has been forced to closed due to a fire alert.

Liverpool Street is currently closed and commuters were forced to evacuate over a fire alarm at the station.

Transport for London (TfL) says valid tickets are being accepted on London buses.

In addition to this, Greater Anglia services between Norwich and Liverpool Street Overground Station have been seriously disrupted after a fallen tree damaged overhead electric wires between Diss and Norwich.

All lines are blocked and National Rail say trains running between these stations may be cancelled or revised.

A do not travel warning has been issued between Diss and Norwich, and the major disruption to trains heading into London Liverpool Street is expected to last until at least midday.

Greater Anglia has suggested that those trying to travel from Norwich into London could make their way to Diss station and get on a train there, as there will be some services to London which start from Diss.

A National Rail spokesperson said: ‘Train services between London Liverpool Street and Norwich are subject to delays, alterations and cancellation owing to a tree damaging the electrical overhead wires between Diss and Norwich.

‘Network Rail staff are expected on site shortly to carry out repairs, at present there is no estimate when repairs will be completed.

‘Greater Anglia are trying to resource rail vehicles between Ipswich and Norwich.’
