Yet another solid-state drive deal is ready for the taking this Black Friday, but you’ll need to be fast if you fancy it for your system. This offer sees a spacious and speedy Samsung SSD hit its lowest ever price, but there’s limited stock going for this promotional price.
Samsung 990 Pro
“Samsung builds the finest PCIe 4.0 consumer SSD for creators and professionals.” Read our review.
A 4TB Samsung 990 Pro is available with a 17% (£47) discount, bringing its £271.99 RRP down to a mere £224.99. The drive in this size has never been cheaper, making it something of a steal. It’s also available with a steep discount in the US, falling 42% ($195) from its $464.99 list price to just $269.99. This isn’t quite its lowest price ever, shy by $20, but this is the most affordable the SSD has been since December 2023.
With sequential read speeds of up to 7,450MB/s, there are few if any PCIe 4.0 SSDs capable of matching 990 Pro. Its sequential writes are nothing to scoff at either, clocking in at up to 6,900MB/s. Combine these specifications with 4TB of storage, and you have a drive that’s as fabulously fast as it is seriously spacious for all your needs.
Samsung Magician remains my preferred SSD software and is a perfect partner to 990 Pro. Through the application, you’ll be able to toggle ‘Over Provisioning’ to extend the lifespan of your drive, as well as understand the health of your drive at a glance. It’ll be years, if not a decade or more, before you reach its limits but it’s always useful to have in case anything should go unusually awry.
Note that this offer concerns the drive without an included heatsink, so you’ll need to pop it under one provided by your motherboard. Thankfully, PCIe 4.0 SSDs don’t get nearly as hot as their PCIe 5.0 brethren, and the same is true of Samsung 990 Pro. In fact, in Tarinder’s testing, operating temperatures peaked at just 71°C, well below thermal throttling thresholds.
