Sean Wilson spotted near Coronation Street set after mysterious exit | Soaps

Coronation Street star Sean Wilson has been pictured with his long-term girlfriend, taking a stroll close-by to the ITV soap’s production base.

Sean, 59, originally starred in the show for twenty years from 1985, with a brief return in 2018 that saw the character move to New Zealand in the wake of son David’s (Jack P. Shepherd) sexual assault.

Earlier in the summer, it was officially announced in a social media video that Martin was due to return to Weatherfield as part of ex-wife Gail’s (Helen Worth) exit storyline.

His return was set to play out over the autumn but last month, it was reported that the actor had ‘stepped down for personal reasons’ – and scripts have had to be drastically rewritten to accommodate his absence.

This is despite the fact he’d already filmed a number of scenes.

His part in Gail’s final plot will now be fulfilled by comedian and actor John Thomson, who is reprising his role as Jesse Chadwick after 14 years.

After time away, Sean returned to social media for the first time, sharing a cryptic picture on X with ‘Xx’ as the caption, not revealing much about his time away.

He then followed it up with a more descriptive message to his followers.

Uploading a picture that featured a LOVE light display, he wrote alongside: ‘Thanks for all the love xxx’.

Now, he’s been spotted walking just 0.2 miles – a 3 minute walk – away from the long-running soap’s set in Trafford, Greater Manchester.

The pictures show Sean, dressed in sunglasses and a large hat, holding a piece of artwork under his arm.

It’s undeniable that his walk along Blue, a street in MediaCity, Salford, would’ve given him a perfect view of the 7.7 acre site that has been home to Coronation Street since 2013.

In further snaps he can then be seen linking arms with his partner Carol Hammond.

Executive producer Iain Macleod originally teased a ‘happy ending’ for Gail, adding to The Daily Star: ‘Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right.’

Whether or not these plans have been altered remains to be seen, but it will begin playing out in the coming weeks.
