Senator Ningi Resumes Plenary After Three-Month Suspension

Senator representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, Abdul Ningi has resumed plenary sessions following a three-month suspension.

The Senate had pardoned and recalled the senator from suspension when it returned from recess last week.

The Bauchi senator was suspended on March 12, 2024 for alleging that the 2024 budget was padded.

He had claimed the National Assembly approved N25tn while the Presidency was implementing N28.7tn as the year’s budget.

In a move to cut short his suspension, Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro moved a motion for his recall.

Moro expressed regret and took responsibility for Ningi’s actions which the Senate had said brought it into disrepute.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who presided over last week’s plenary announced Ningi’s unconditional recall after pleas from some lawmakers.

The senator was seen driving into the National Assembly complex and was subsequently seen seated among his colleagues in the minority section shared by his party members, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
