Sergio Ramos returns to LaLiga with his native Sevilla club.

Sergio Ramos, a former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain defender, will rejoin his boyhood club Sevilla as a free agent, the LaLiga club announced on Monday.

According to sources, the 37-year-old was reportedly in advanced talks with the Spanish club when his contract with the Ligue 1 winners expired this summer.

According to sources, Ramos was courted by Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad, Galatasaray, FC Porto, and MLS but chose Sevilla because he wishes to stay near to home.

“Sergio joined our youth academy at the age of seven and progressed through the youth ranks until he made his first reserve team debut in the 2002-03 season at the age of 16,” Sevilla said in a statement.

“Our academy’s centre-back… returns home nearly two decades after leaving at the age of 19 for Real Madrid.”

After failing to reach an agreement to prolong his 16-year stint at Real Madrid, the defender moved to PSG on a free transfer in 2021. During his two years in France, he won two Ligue 1 titles.

He won four Champions League crowns and five LaLiga trophies in Madrid, appearing in 671 games and scoring 101 goals.

Before retiring from international football in February, Spain’s most capped international player also won the World Cup in 2010 and two European Championships.
