Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Star Wars’ newest TV show, just gave a major hint about Jude Law’s character Jod Na Nawood—and it confirms what many suspected all along. The identity of Jude Law’s character has been a mystery from the very beginning. As is true of many Star Wars movies and TV shows, details about Skeleton Crew were kept tightly under wraps in advance of the show’s release date.
Closer to the premiere of Skeleton Crew’s first two episodes, Star Wars began revealing quite a bit more, especially about Skeleton Crew’s cast and characters, suggesting that Jude Law’s character was a Jedi. In fact, Skeleton Crew co-creator Christopher Ford went so far as to say they wanted a “whole new kind of Jedi” for the show, heavily hinting that Jod was a Jedi. There was always something a little odd about the idea that Jod was a Jedi, though, and one subtle detail from Skeleton Crew episode 4 confirms that audiences were right to doubt him.
There Have Been Many Hints Jod Na Nawood Isn’t A Jedi
Something About This Was Suspicious From The Beginning
Even with Star Wars referring to Jod Na Nawood as a new kind of Jedi and with Wim calling him a Jedi in the trailer (and then episode 2), that description of Jod never seemed entirely correct. Star Wars dropped several hints before Skeleton Crew was released and in the episodes since that this wasn’t actually the case. For one, Skeleton Crew’s place on the Star Wars timeline, in the New Republic Era, and its location in Wild Space raise questions about how Jod could be a Jedi.

The New Republic Era is a brief period of galactic history, but it’s vitally important to Star Wars. Here are all the key galactic events!
It’s not out of the question, even in this time and place. Jod could be one of the survivors of Order 66, perhaps rescued from the Jedi Temple during that horrific event when he was very young, not unlike Grogu. Yet, the notion that he was a Jedi only became all the more dubious with time, suggesting that this possibility is rather unlikely.
One of the biggest hints that Jod isn’t a Jedi came before Skeleton Crew debuted, with the release of his action figures. Curiously, none of the action figures of Jod Na Nawood came with a lightsaber. While lightsabers don’t necessarily define the Jedi, this was bizarre. Moreover, Jude Law was incredibly cagey about this character in interviews, drawing even more speculation that Jod isn’t a Jedi at all.
The first four episodes of Skeleton Crew have also dropped a number of brand-new hints that Jod isn’t a Jedi. His use of the Force seemed questionable at best in episodes 2 and 3, somewhat reminiscent of Haja in Obi-Wan Kenobi. There was just something not quite right about his ‘Force’ abilities, as they always seemed somewhat staged or uncanny when he used them.

There’s also the fact that Jod directly told Wim he never actually said he was a Jedi. While Wim was aghast at this, it didn’t come as much of a surprise for viewers. Now, Skeleton Crew episode 4 has dropped a much more major hint that Jod is not a Jedi.
Jod Na Nawood Doesn’t Use The Force In Skeleton Crew Episode 4
When The Kids Are In Danger, Jod’s ‘Jedi’ Abilities Are Nowhere In Sight
In episode 4 of Skeleton Crew, Fern has a stroke of genius, realizing that SM-33 could be saying he can’t say he remembers At Attin because his memories have been erased. Because of this, she overrides his memory and asks once again about the planet. Evidently adhering to some directive from his previous captain, SM-33 has a major transformation into a terrifying, violent droid, going after the kids.
Ultimately, it is (adorably) Neel who stands up to the droid to protect his friends, although this causes SM-33 to turn on Neel instead. As SM-33 begins to charge at Neel, Jod looks alarmed, holding a blaster but unsure what to do. In the end, he runs at SM-33, hitting his off-switch (which admittedly also felt a bit questionable).
The weirdest aspect of this scene is that Jod Na Nawood, allegedly a Jedi, chooses to run at SM-33 and hit his off-switch rather than use the Force. Surely, if Jod Na Nawood was actually a Jedi, or even had the Force at all, he would have used it then, to protect Neel. This is arguably the biggest hint so far that Jod isn’t really a Jedi.

I Never Truly Believed Jod Na Nawood Was A Jedi
From Very Early On, This Seemed Wrong
It still hasn’t been officially confirmed that Jod Na Nawood isn’t a Jedi, but it seems all but certain at this point that he is not. Realistically, this isn’t surprising. Jude Law and Star Wars were being far too cryptic about this character for him to be who they claimed he was, and his story just wasn’t adding up.
This moment in Skeleton Crew episode 4 was nevertheless a fascinating one for multiple reasons and a creative way to have it seemingly confirmed that Jod isn’t a Jedi. It’s likely Star Wars isn’t done revealing mysteries about Jod’s true identity even now. Yes, he also goes by the name of Crimson Jack, but there’s no doubt more to this Star Wars: Skeleton Crew character—that likely won’t include him being a Jedi.
The first 4 episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are now streaming on Disney+.
