The Mandalorian & Grogu Is Finally Giving Star Wars Movies Momentum

Star Wars is Heading Back to the Big Screen

While Star Wars has been putting out numerous titles since the end of the Skywalker saga in 2019, none have been movies. In fact, Star Wars has found its rhythm in putting out content on Disney+, but seeing them get back on the big screen is a great next step for the franchise. With The Mandalorian being an already beloved title, transitioning these characters to the big screen seems like a no-brainer. If The Mandalorian & Grogu is well received, it will give Lucasfilm the push to start producing more films.

Lucasfilm has notoriously canceled multiple Star Wars movies in recent years, with many being stuck in a long development process. Some have even turned into TV shows, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and, in some ways, The Book of Boba Fett. This came after the box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story, which seemed to discourage Lucasfilm from pursuing more spin-off movies – especially once the success of The Mandalorian made TV shows seem more appealing.

Given all of this, seeing Lucasfilm take their time to develop concepts worthy of having an entire film made for them is promising. While it may be sad that The Mandalorian may not come out with any more seasons, it’s exciting to see Jon Favreau push Din Djarin and Grogu’s story further by getting them into theaters. With other new Star Wars movies on the horizon, The Mandalorian & Grogu will hopefully set a precedent for the Star Wars franchise.
