Steam Hardware & Software Survey results are in for June 2024, and it’s all coming up Milhouse for RTX 4060. While the 60 class graphics card is still a ways off usurping the reigning champion, it’s one of the few to enjoy a healthy increase in its user base compared to a widespread decline elsewhere. In fact, this could be the beginning of its ascension to the top, following in the footsteps of its predecessors.

Here at Club386, we think RTX 4060 ranks among the best graphics cards on the market despite its flaws. Our commendations aside, its popularity is in no doubt partly due to its low price point of £289 ($299). However, in an unexpected turn of events, the desktop version of Nvidia’s budget Lovelace offering isn’t the one predominantly driving its prevalence among Steam users. That honour, instead, lies with RTX 4060 Laptop GPU.

The gap between each version of RTX 4060 is just 0.56%, but every percentage point counts in this leaderboard. More specifically, RTX 4060 (desktop) boasts a 3.02% share of all Steam users, while RTX 4060 Laptop clinches the win with 3.58%. This makes them the first and second most popular RTX 40 series graphics model, and #9 and #3 overall on their lonesome.

Popular as these graphics cards are, there’s still quite a hill to climb before they dethrone RTX 3060 with its now 5.66% share. Sure as night follows day, though, we’re confident that RTX 4060 will eventually find its way to the top of the pile. We’ll likely see some more seismic movement once RTX 50 series graphics cards arrive, as users upgrade to that generation or pick up discounted current generation models.

While Nvidia continues to find success among gamers with its GeForce cards, AMD is seemingly still struggling to shake things up. Radeon RX 7900 XTX remains the only named example of its RDNA 3 lineup in the Steam Hardware & Software Survey. For context, Team Red’s flagship boasts a 0.37% share, while the rest of the Radeon RX 7000 series fails to capture even 0.16%.
