Summary
- Stephen Amell is open to playing a Batman villain in the DCU.
- Amell’s experience as a darker Green Arrow and an evil version of the character could translate well to a Batman villain role.
- Deathstroke could be the perfect fit for Amell in the DCU, connecting to his Arrow character.
Stephen Amell would be game to join the new DC Universe, and the actor even has a kind of role in mind if that opportunity comes. Amell is one of the most important actors in recent DC live-action history. The star led eight seasons of Arrow, the show that started the Arrowverse, a shared DC TV universe that brought to life many huge heroes and villains and presented exciting crossovers for years. At the moment, Amell’s time at DC has ended, with the Arrowverse bowing out with the end of The Flash season 9, in which Amell appeared.
Amell’s work as Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, might not have been necessarily comic book-accurate, but it was gripping and led to a whole universe of DC characters. As such, it would be exciting to see what Amell could do with DC in a different medium as a fresh new character. At the moment, no Arrowverse stars are set to be part of the DCU’s announced projects, either as their DC characters or new ones. However, that could change, and DCU creative chief James Gunn has teased the arrival of the villain that is perfect for Amell.

Stephen Amell Is Open To Playing A Batman Villain In The DCU
Amell’s Green Arrow Had Many Similarities To Batman
Amell has become famous for playing Green Arrow, a Justice League member and a beloved hero. While the actor would be happy to return as Oliver Queen in theaters, Amell is open to playing a Batman villain as his next DC role. Speaking to the Geek House Show in 2022, Amell was asked if he had any other character in mind other than Green Arrow to play in DC’s shared universe, saying, “Oh, just find me a good Batman villain that no one’s played yet, and I’ll play that.”
It would be interesting to see Amell play a Batman villain, as the actor did great in the role of a darker hero. Amell also played a great villain in the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Earth-X crossover, which saw him take on the role of a multiverse version of Green Arrow, the evil Dark Arrow. More recently, Amell said he is open to joining Gunn’s DCU. While the actor did say that he would like to see “one minute of film first,” as the DCU has yet to release its first project, Amell said, “Yeah, I’d do it.”

Stephen Amell As Deathstroke Would Be His Perfect DCU Role
It Would Also Be A Neat Connection To Arrow
While Deathstroke did appear in the DCEU, the character was only used in a cameo in Justice League‘s post-credits scene, making Slade Wilson’s cinematic landscape pretty empty, just like Amell commented would be good for his Batman villain. Deathstroke was also set to be the main villain of Ben Affleck’s Batman movie before it was canceled. As such, Amell could be the one to finally give DC fans that connection between Batman and Deathstroke in the DCU. Adding to that, the DCEU’s Joe Manganiello is confirmed not to appear as Deathstroke in the DCU.
Gunn has teased plans for Deathstroke in the DCU, and with a Teen Titans movie on the way — the villain is the team’s biggest foe — that could be the perfect project for him to debut. Amell has shown in Arrow and plenty of other roles that he has the physicality needed to make Deathstroke the terrifying force that he is. Amell playing Deathstroke would also be perfect due to a connection to Arrow. In the DC series, Slade Wilson was deeply involved with Amell’s Oliver Queen, first as a friend and then as his nemesis.

Could Arrowverse Actors Join The DCU?
Standing against Amell’s chances of playing Deathstroke is the question of whether Gunn will use Arrowverse stars in the new DCU. So far, Gunn has not made a definitive comment about actors from TV shows reprising their roles in the DCU, but that is unlikely to happen. The most likely scenario is that as long as Arrowverse actors play new characters, they could have a shot at joining the DCU. Amell as Deathstroke would suit that.
While Gunn has yet to cast an Arrowverse star in the DCU, the shared universe’s creative lead has revealed the one Arrowverse actor he wants to work with. According to Gunn, he wants to work with The Flash‘s Grant Gustin in the future. If Gustin, one of the Arrowverse’s main stars, has a decent chance of joining the DCU, then Stephen Amell‘s wish to play a Batman movie villain, perhaps Deathstroke, could also become true in a future DC Universe project.
