Microsoft recently pushed a new Sticky Notes app, which is a part of the OneNote app. The old app will be retired soon, but many users are facing sign-in issues with the legacy app. They cannot sign in and access their notes and have to resort to other means to access them.
Windows Latest spotted this community post complaining about the Sticky Notes woes. It has over 1200 views so far and was added on the 29th of September. Ninety-one people are facing the same issues as per current stats, which means the problem is not isolated.
The problem appears to be with the login mechanism of the old Sticky Notes app. It doesn’t complete the sign-in process and throws the “account has no mailbox” error. The community post creator tried multiple troubleshooting methods, like app reset and reinstall, and tried a different Microsoft account, but nothing helped.
It is peculiar that a work/school account doesn’t have any sign-in troubles while the personal account throws an error. The notes are accessible via the OneNote app, appear in the Outlook Notes folder, and sync properly. However, after logging out of the personal account, it becomes impossible to sign in again.
Other Sticky Notes users agreed to this abrupt issue and expressed discontent with the new Sticky Notes app.
It removed some legacy functions like pasting pictures and struggles while changing Note colors and removes old notes when you sign in with a new account, just to name a few.
Solution for the “Account has no mailbox” Sticky Notes error
The easiest way to evade this issue is to access your Notes via another Microsoft service. Since all notes are synced and stored in your Outlook account, you can access them from there. Log in to your Outlook email account and use the Notes section to access them.
Another easy method is to switch to the new Sticky Notes app. We understand it’s cumbersome and you hate it, but the old app will bite the dust soon. You’ll have to move to the new one, and it’s better to access your notes from it for the time being.
Microsoft moderators haven’t responded to the issue until now, and until they fix it from their end, you must stick with the alternate means to access your notes. If you haven’t signed out of your old Sticky Notes app, refrain from doing so.
