A stowaway cat was shipped over 650 miles after sneaking into an Amazon box.
Carrie and Matt Clark’s pet, named Galena, loves to hide, but her naughty nature got her into trouble when she mysteriously vanished from the family’s home.
Galena found her way inside an Amazon box being used to return some CAT footwear.
Her owners last saw her on April 10, at their home in Lehi, near Salt Lake City, Utah, US.
The feline then spent six days travelling without food and water before ending up over 650 miles away in Los Angeles, California. During this time, the Clarks were frantically looking for their beloved cat.
Galena was found by an Amazon worker named Brandy Hunter who looked after her and even took her to a vet for checks.
Then on April 17, the Clarks received a call from the vet who had scanned the cat’s microchip.
‘Without the microchip, and the kindness of Brandy, we never would have found her again,’ owner Carrie said.
To reunite with Galena, the Clarks booked a flight to California for the next day and picked her up.
Carrie recalled: ‘Brandy told us Galena heard my voice when we walked in and she immediately reacted.’
Galena suffered from mild dehydration, but was otherwise unharmed from her six-day ordeal.
The Amazon box the cat found herself in had a tiny opening that gave her enough air and the temperatures remained mild.
‘Despite being skinnier she is completely unharmed,’ Carrie explained.
‘After getting the vets approval and a game plan, Matt, Galena, and I packed up the rental car and drove 10 hours together back to Utah.’
After travelling for 1,400 miles over 24 hours, they finally made it back home with their pet.
Carrie said: ‘We’re in awe of all the little and big miracles that have taken place.
‘The side seam of her box split open so she could breathe, the weather was ideal temperatures, she was sent to Brandy’s Amazon facility – who knows all about cats and knew exactly how to help her.’
Carrie is now encouraging all animal owners to microchip their pets and ‘triple check your Amazon boxes.’
‘They say cats have nine lives,’ she added. ‘But this is the story of how our kitty Galena used six in a week.’
