When the episode starts, Roger Korby has been missing for five years, and nobody expects to find him alive. The Gorn crisis in SNW‘s season 2 finale brought Spock and Chapel back together, and appeared to give them a second chance at love. TOS has established that this cannot happen, and it appears as if Roger Korby will end Spock and Chapel’s romance once and for all. And yet, various episodes of TOS suggest that Spock and Chapel never completely got over each other. All of which sets the stage for a complicated love triangle in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3.
