Noah Schnapp revisits Castle Byers in a Stranger Things season 5 behind-the-scenes video. Introduced in season 1, Castle Byers was a fort that Will (Schnapp) and his brother, Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), had made. When Will was trapped in the Upside Down, he hid from the Demogorgon in the alternate dimension’s version of Castle Byers. Will has gone through a great deal since then, with his story poised to conclude in Stranger Things season 5, which is still filming.
On X, Ross Duffer shared a video of Schnapp bidding farewell to the last day of filming on the Castle Byers set, which included providing a behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic location. Check out the video below:
Schnapp refers to it as “the last day forever” and reminisces about how he first filmed scenes in Castle Byers when he was 10 years old and how he is now filming there a decade later. He emphasizes that this is the Upside Down version of Castle Byers and points out Will’s drawings on the walls.
What This Means For Stranger Things
The Upside Down’s Castle Byers Is Part Of The Show’s Endgame
While Schnapp’s video is nostalgic, it is also an intriguing tease for season 5. Will destroyed Castle Byers in Hawkins, Indiana when he was upset, but Schnapp points out that this is the Upside Down version of the location. This aligns with a previous behind-the-scenes photo that was shared by him and a younger version of his character both being inside Castle Byers. It seems that Will needs to return to the place where he hid for most of season 1, with this location potentially proving useful in the quest to defeat Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

The return of Castle Byers is another sign of how the final seasons will bring the story full circle after the Stranger Things season 4 ending. The full-circle storytelling has been made clear in the episode titles, including the series finale “The Rightside Up,” while the season 1 finale was titled “The Upside Down.” Since Will’s disappearance was the catalyst for the entire series, it is only fitting that he is at the center of how the series ends, which involves returning to where his harrowing journey began.
Our Take On The Behind-The-Scenes Video
Season 5 Is Closer Than Ever Before
This video provides another tantalizing glimpse at what is in store for the Stranger Things characters in season 5 while also providing an exciting filming update. While it is sad for this to be Schnapp’s last day ever filming on the Castle Byers set, this is a sign of the production continuing to move along, with all Castle Byers’ scenes having been shot. The filming of Stranger Things season 5 is getting closer to reaching its end and following through on the promise of being released on Netflix in 2025.
