Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 7.Clark Kent’s life has always revolved around a major secret, and Superman & Lois‘ latest episode brings a major twist to it. I have been enjoying the chance to get one last run with the DC show, and Superman & Lois season 4’s cast is consistently knocking it out of the park. Since this is the final season of the Superman series, Superman & Lois is able to do something that the comics often cannot do, which is to bring a sense of finality to the story.
Major heroes like Superman will always get ongoing runs, one after the other. However, while the world of Superman & Lois can go on after season 4, those events will remain in the fans’ imagination. As such, the DC series is now walking towards its endgame, and that has included major fights, heartbreak, emotional moments, exciting character interactions, and extreme decisions. The latter rings true for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 7. I was shocked to see Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent choose a path of no return in the Superman series, but it was perfect.
Superman & Lois Just Had Clark Kent Reveal His Secret Identity To The World
Clark Kent Is Superman & Everyone Finally Knows It
The secret is out of the bag: Clark Kent is Superman. Superman & Lois has always put a focus on Clark and his sons keeping their powers a secret. However, the show’s final season has been slowly showing that would change before we were done with these characters. After all, Doomsday dropped Superman’s lifeless body in the middle of the street in Smallville, right in front of his family. The Kents were not able to control their emotional reaction to seeing Clark dead, and many characters who live in Smallville saw that and connected the dots.

Superman & Lois Set Up The Wildest Way To Cut Off Superman’s Powers & I Can’t Believe It’s Never Been Done Before
Clark Kent’s powers have been a recurring topic in Superman & Lois season 4, and the DC series has presented a creative way for him to be powerless.
Multiple Smallville citizens have shown to know that Clark is Superman throughout the season. Because of that, the hero tries to convince them that he was only Clark Kent during episode 7. However, Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor reveals to Candice’s dad, who had a prior altercation with Clark and was banished from Smallville in shame by the hero, that Clark was Superman. After Emmitt Pergande shot at Clark, Hoechlin’s character decided to reveal that he was Superman to stop things from getting out of hand. Later, Clark reveals his secret to the world in a Daily Planet interview.
Why Superman & Lois’ Secret Identity Storyline Is Such A Big Deal
Living With The Secret Is All Clark Kent Has Ever Known
I was shocked to see Clark Kent’s secret being revealed in Superman & Lois‘ latest episode. As a major Superman fan, I know that has been done before in the comics. On the TV side, my biggest exposure to the Superman mythos was through Smallville, and Clark fought hard to keep his powers and origin a secret from as many people as he could over ten seasons, losing so much because of that. Likewise, Superman & Lois put an emphasis on how keeping Clark’s secret is important for the Kents to lead a normal life, so the reveal is massive.

Since he was a kid, Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent has kept his powers a secret from others. Superman & Lois season 1 even showed that the hero did not tell his sons about his true identity until they were teenagers, which caused friction between them. Clark not telling characters like Lana Lang and Jimmy Olsen — the latter made his Superman & Lois debut in the latest episode — about being Superman also put a strain on his relationship with them. Clark had a hard time with his friends knowing his identity, but now he lets the world know he is Superman.
What Superman & Lois’ Secret Identity Twist Means For The Show’s Ending
The Kents Could See Their Lives Get Turned Upside Down
Superman & Lois has always been about legacy. Clark Kent and Lois Lane only ever want what is best for their sons, and due to his upbringing and experience as a superhero, Superman always thought that having a secret identity was needed. However, they are now in uncharted territory with the whole world knowing that Clark is Superman, which makes it evident that his sons are the Superboys that have been flying around. Jordan and Jonathan Kent have always wanted to let their close ones in on their secret, and now they can, without feeling any guilt.
With Hoechlin’s Superman not as strong as he once was due to his new heart and the Kents’ secret being out in the open, I think that a new generation of Supermen is on the rise. It seems like the show is setting up Jordan and Jonathan to take over for Clark during its series finale, which perhaps could be done through a time jump to show the future of Superman & Lois‘ world. Since Superman’s secret was out in the Inverse World and the Kents did not do well with the spotlight, I hope history does not repeat itself.
Superman & Lois, the seventh Arrowverse spinoff series, will take the titular characters from Metropolis to Smallville. The CW series is set in the aftermath of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, which saw the multiverse collapse and the merging of worlds into what is now Earth Prime. Superman & Lois sees Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) dealing with all the pressures of their jobs, along with being parents to two teenage sons. Lois and Clark are no strangers to the Arrowverse, with Hoechlin’s Superman having been introduced all the way back in Supergirl season 2. Meanwhile, Tulloch’s Lois made her debut in the 2018 “Elseworlds” crossover. The duo is joined by a growing cast of characters that includes a new iteration of Lana Lang.
