WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 3.Superman & Lois season 4 has revealed that DC’s version of Iron Man is the one to replace the deceased Clark Kent as the world’s hero. Tyler Hoechlin’s take on the Man of Steel has grown throughout Superman & Lois to become one of the best live-action versions of Superman. After season 3’s ending teased a possible Death of Superman adaptation was coming, Doomsday took Superman’s life in season 4’s first episode. With Superman dead, the world needs a new hero to step up.

Doomsday and Lex Luthor are still around, trying to take away everything Lois Lane holds dear. Adding to that, Superman & Lois has teased Brainiac’s possible debut. After seasons of training, Jordan Kent tried to rise up to the occasion, taking his dad’s place as the world’s protector. However, his impulsiveness and lack of experience showed that Jordan was still not ready to be Superman’s substitute. That has led to the return of a fan-favorite character, as DC’s version of Iron Man replaces Superman as the world’s first line of defense.

Superman & Lois Season 4 Just Saw Steel Replace Superman

The Hero Has Plenty Of Experience For The Role

Wolé Parks’ Steel has now become the main hero that the DOD keeps on the speed dial. Episode 3 of Superman & Lois‘ final season brings Steel and Tayler Buck’s Natalie Irons back to the table. As part of the decision to make season 4 the show’s last, Superman & Lois‘ cast suffered cuts, and so many of the core players from previous seasons are going to be missing for a few episodes. After a brief absence, Steel and Natalie, the latter who receives the code name Starlight, are back in the middle of the action.

I’m Convinced That Tom Welling & Michael Rosenbaum’s Smallville Sequel Is The Perfect Replacement For Superman & Lois After It Ends

Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are trying to get a Smallville sequel series made, and the show would be the ideal replacement for Superman & Lois.

John Henry Irons becoming the main hero in a world without Superman was the natural path for the show. Irons and Clark Kent have become very close friends over the previous seasons of the DC series, fighting side by side on the field several times. Superman and Steel have saved the world together, so DC’s Iron Man being the one to take over for Superman is the right choice. Steel has all the experience that Jordan lacks, and with his intelligence, super suit, and assistance from Starlight, he can fill in for Superman.

Superman & Lois’ Steel Storyline Raises The Stakes For Season 4

Steel Has A Major Villain To Face

That said, Steel being the hero to replace Superman instead of Jordan does come with a major caveat. He is not nearly as durable as a Kryptonian, even accounting for the Steel suit. Since Superman & Lois season 4 is the show’s last, and General Lane’s death proves anyone can go, Steel’s new position could lead to a tragic fate for John Henry. However, with Hoechlin’s Clark Kent opening his eyes at the end of episode 3, Superman can arrive just in time to help Steel take down Lex Luthor and Doomsday, giving Superman & Lois a happy ending.

Superman & Lois, the seventh Arrowverse spinoff series, will take the titular characters from Metropolis to Smallville. The CW series is set in the aftermath of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, which saw the multiverse collapse and the merging of worlds into what is now Earth Prime. Superman & Lois sees Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) dealing with all the pressures of their jobs, along with being parents to two teenage sons. Lois and Clark are no strangers to the Arrowverse, with Hoechlin’s Superman having been introduced all the way back in Supergirl season 2. Meanwhile, Tulloch’s Lois made her debut in the 2018 “Elseworlds” crossover. The duo is joined by a growing cast of characters that includes a new iteration of Lana Lang.
