The Voice UK fans were confused while watching the opening episode of the 2024 series, and recognised one of the acts who performed.

On Saturday night, the first round of blind auditions took place for the singing competition on ITV, which this year boasts coaches will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, LeAnn Rimes and duo Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones.

Several artists performed in the first episode, including a boyband called Mic Lowry (stylised as MiC LOWRY), who prompted all of the coaches to turn for them before joining the Black Eyed Peas rapper’s team.

While viewers at home were similarly bowled over by their talents as the four members of the band performed Mario’s Just A Friend 2002, others realised that they looked very familiar.

Some pointed out that the band, which is made up of Delleile Ankrah, Kaine Ofoeme, Ben Sharples and Michael Welch, have already achieved big success in the music industry, supporting artists including Justin Bieber and the Backstreet Boys on tour.

‘So pleased to see Mic Lowry on The Voice! I’ve loved them since they opened for Boyz 2 Men at the O2 many years ago. Their new album is so good!’ a fan called Sarah wrote on X.

‘Mic Lowry are already successful, performing all around the world. Bigger than any artist that’s won the show,’ Simon added, while Jo wrote: ‘MiC Lowry.. I saw these on tour with Bieber on the Purpose Tour and I loved them then.’

One person called Emma questioned why they were on The Voice UK, writing: ‘Mic Lowry on [The] Voice why I thought they were already big.’

A YouTube user named @christospify expressed their belief that the band were too ‘far into a professional career to be on The Voice’.

‘Got people working in Asda that have never had a chance against a group that went on tour with Justin Bieber and the Backstreet Boys,’ they said.

However, others didn’t mind that the group already has a platform, as they were simply excited to see them on the ITV show.

‘I can’t even explain the excitement seeing mic Lowry, I’ve listened to them for 8 years in October after they supported Justin Bieber in 2016, my winners already I reckon,’ @corawilson4035 commented on YouTube.

‘Mic Lowry hive stand uppppp!! So excited for these boys,’ @nurel27 added, as Queenie shared on X: ‘Ahh Mic Lowry are sick !!! I really hope this makes their big break for them you know. They’ve been waiting TOO LONG !! 👏🏾👌🏾.’

In addition to touring with global music stars, Mic Lowry have also performed in the past on the TV shows Today and The Wendy Williams Show in the US.

The group were formed in 2011, after all four members attended the same school in Liverpool.

While they were previously signed to the music label Universal Musical Group, they later decided to go independent.
