The Witcher star Liam Hemsworth has revealed the planned production window for season 5. The Netflix fantasy show is adapted from the Polish novel series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, which has previously been adapted into a popular video game franchise. Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Henry Cavill in the lead role as Geralt of Rivia as of the upcoming The Witcher season 4, which will be followed by season 5, the show’s final season. The rest of the ensemble cast remains the same, including Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, alongside newcomers including Laurence Fishburne and Sharlto Copley.
During a recent interview on LIVE with Kelly and Mark, Liam Hemsworth was asked if he would be returning to Australia once he was done shooting The Witcher season 4. In addition to answering in the affirmative, he offered a clearer view of the show’s production shedule, revealing that season four was going to be shooting for about three more weeks, “and then we break for about four months” before returning to shoot season 5, which will take about eight months. What This Production Date Means For The Witcher Season 5
The Show Could Be Wrapped By 2026
From the planned timeline that Liam Hemsworth describes, it seems that the current expectation is for season 4 to wrap production by the end of October 2024. With a four-month break afterward, this likely means that the Witcher cast will reunite to kick off production on season 5 by late February or early March 2025. With an eight-month span for production, the final season will be set to wrap either by the very end of the year or early January 2026.

It seems highly likely that Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia will make his onscreen debut at some point during production on season 5. Typically, new seasons of The Witcher premiere between seven and nine months after production wraps, allowing ample time for the post-production needs of the fantasy genre. This means that season 4 could be ready to premiere some time between June and August 2025. If it premieres on Netflix in August, that would occur almost exactly during the middle of the eight-month production.
Our Take On The Witcher Season 5 Production Schedule
This Is The Timeliest Season Of The Show
If all goes according to plan, the final season of The Witcher could premiere exactly a year after the previous season premieres. This would mark the shortest hiatus between seasons of the Netflix fantasy show, which has previously only had hiatuses of 18 months or more. Even though viewers may need some time to adjust to the recast lead role, this relatively quick timeline for the final season could allow closure to come in a timely manner.
