This Fake Mandalorian & Grogu Movie Trailer Has Over 150K Views

A fake trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu has surfaced online. The upcoming movie, which takes place in the Star Wars universe, is a follow-up to the Disney+ show The Mandalorian, which follows the titular bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) as he goes on adventures and forges a deeper and deeper bond with his target-turned-ward Grogu, an infant from the same species as Yoda. The movie will be directed by the show’s creator Jon Favreau and may take the place of the possible season 4, which had previously been in development.

A video purporting to be a trailer for the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu has been posted by Darth Trailer on YouTube and viewed over 150,000 times. See it below:

While the video may seem legitimate at first, especially because it begins with the Lucasfilm logo, there are many clues that it is not real. This includes the fact that much of the footage is culled from various episodes of the Disney+ show, the YouTube account not being an official movie distributor account, and the description of the video on YouTube calling it a “FAN (CONCEPT) Trailer Concept.”

The Upcoming Star Wars Movie Still Has A Way To Go

While the Star Wars movie is hotly anticipated, which explains the many views on the fan trailer, it will still be quite a while before an actual trailer is released. This is because the project is still in early development and no footage has been shot just yet. Although the Mandalorian & Grogu title was announced in January, the movie isn’t expected to begin principal photography until June. At that point, footage from the shoot may be teased at various conventions, but it could still be some time before an official teaser or trailer is produced.

Because the blockbuster sci-fi franchise requires extensive post-production due to its heavy use of visual effects, the end of principal photography doesn’t mean that a trailer will arrive soon afterward. Additionally, the first trailer for a movie typically arrives less than a year before the movie itself, a tradition that the iconic franchise has generally stuck to. If the The Mandalorian & Grogu movie follows the lead of every Star Wars release post The Force Awakens, there is a relatively narrow band of time in which the trailer could premiere. Because the movie’s official premiere date is currently set on May 22, 2026, it seems most likely that the trailer will premiere sometime between September 2025 and February 2026. In the meantime, any footage released on non-official accounts will very likely be fake.
