A raft of major banks have suffered issues today leaving thousands of customers unable to access their money.

HSBC, Nationwide, Barclays and Virgin Money are among the companies affected on what is commonly pay day for workers across the UK.

Banks have apologised to people, who have been left with no way of using their online accounts.

‘We’re really sorry that some customers are having issues accessing personal online and mobile banking,’ HSBC UK said on the service status page of its website.

‘Our IT teams are working hard to get these services back to normal. You can still authorise online card purchases via SMS.’
