TikTok star Dr. Kimberley Nix has died aged 31 three years after being diagnosed with metastatic sarcoma.
The 31-year-old doctor rose to fame on social media in 2021 as she, then 28 and in her final three of her internal medicine core residency, began documenting her cancer journey online.
She confirmed the news of her own death on Wednesday in a devastating video shared with her 137,000 followers on TikTok.
In a clip which has already been seen over six million times, she said: ‘Hello followers, if you’re seeing this message I have passed away peacefully.
‘For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Kim, hi! It’s so nice to meet you and you’re welcome to check out all the cool sarcoma facts, information and my lived experience with death and dying with sarcoma cancer.
‘You don’t have to go just because you’re new.’
Nix, who got married to her husband Michael MacIsaac in February, told her fans that she had a ‘very beautiful life’.
‘Those who know me, know I love my pets, my husband, and makeup. And though being a doctor is a big part of my identity, those are the things that matter,’ she said. ‘So get ready with me one last time.’
She also reflected on the items she managed to tick off her ‘bucket list’ before her death.
What is metastatic cancer?
- According to the NHS, soft tissue sarcoma ‘is a rare cancer that can start almost anywhere inside the soft tissue of the body’
- Soft tissues include muscles, fat, blood vessels, ligaments and tendons
- The most common symptom is a lump ‘somewhere on your body’, which is usually found deep under your skin
- It’s typically solid to touch, painless and difficult to move around under the skin
- The lump will grow and can become painful
‘I got to get engaged, get married, I went to New York City, and it was like Gossip Girl,’ she recalled. ‘I was dining at Michelin star restaurants, which was so cool. I also went to Broadway, which was a dream of mine.’
She was also able to go to the ‘mountains, San Francisco, and a winery’.
She hailed her husband as her ‘most beautiful love’, and broke down in tears as she spoke about their relationship.
‘My only sadness about dying is that we won’t get to grow old together,’ she admitted. ‘Everything else, is totally bearable. That is the only thing that really matters.’
Nix also thanked everyone for giving her the chance to ‘find so much purpose’ after her diagnosis.
She added: ‘I love you all, thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. I’m in happy tears because you’ve all made me find so much purpose in the end of my life.’
In the caption to the video, Nix revealed how the support from her followers gave her strength during her illness.
My journey here is over and I can’t thank each and every one of you enough. You have all made me so happy and your comments and support are more than enough to have gotten anyone through anything,’ she wrote.
‘If you wish, please donate through my link in bio to sarcoma cancer research and follow my husband [Michael MacIsaac] in his updates.’
