With Spider-Man 4 confirmed to be in the works, Tom Holland’s comments make the project all the more promising. The last Spider-Man installment in the MCU timeline left off on a cliffhanger for Holland’s Peter Parker, and Marvel fans will fortunately get to see his story continue in 2026. Spider-Man 4 will see Holland’s return with director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm. Based on what the actor has said about the franchise, the future of the Spider-Man character in the MCU seems to be in good hands.
During an episode of Rich Roll’s podcast in October 2024, Holland expressed his interest in making more Spider-Man films. Even through his personal excitement, he acknowledged that he’d only be interested in continuing in the franchise if it were truly what was best for the character’s story. A lot of big franchises run the risk of getting stale when projects are continuously pushed out for the sake of box office numbers. Knowing that the actors are in it for the right reasons offers a lot of promise for future projects, such as Holland with Spider-Man 4.
The Actor Sees Promise In Spider-Man 4
While talking about his MCU future on the podcast, Holland says, “I want to make another one. I want to make many more, but I want to do it for the right reasons.“ His comments make the anticipation for Spider-Man 4 all the more exciting, as fans can trust that the film won’t just be some sort of gimmick sequel. Based on what Holland said, he wouldn’t have agreed to return for Spider-Man 4 if he didn’t believe that there was a substantial Peter Parker story to tell.
Marvel fans have plenty of opinions when it comes to the best live-action iteration of Spider-Man, but there’s no doubt that Holland has proven his dedication to the role. His comments suggest that there are more Spider-Man films in the works past Spider-Man 4. Even if one of these future films includes Holland passing the role to someone else and his time in the MCU coming to an end, it’ll likely be because he looked at the options and decided that concluding his role is what’s best for Peter’s story.
Why MCU’s Spider-Man Needs Another Trilogy
A Second Spider-Man Trilogy Would Focus On Peter’s Independence
Not every MCU character gets their own trilogy, let alone two. However, the character of Spider-Man is one that needs to be fleshed out over two trilogies. The MCU’s first Spider-Man trilogy focused on the theme of home. As Peter was still a relatively new hero, he was constantly under guidance to grow into his Avengers position. The Home trilogy was all about Peter learning his place in the world with the help of trusted heroes like Iron Man and Doctor Strange. It was a nice introduction to the character, but he has grown way beyond that story now.
The MCU’s second Spider-Man trilogy would likely focus on Peter’s independence. He’s already had to manage on his own at times, but with the effects of Doctor Strange’s memory wipe from No Way Home, Peter is truly alone in the world now. He has no choice but to fully step up in the MCU in ways he didn’t have to before, and he might even be able to inspire a new generation of heroes as their role model. Whereas a lot of heroes don’t necessarily need two trilogies, Peter’s constant growth as a younger hero naturally lends itself to two.
Holland Wants To Bring Miles Morales Into The MCU
Holland has constantly acknowledged that there will come a time when his MCU portrayal of Spider-Man must come to an end. However, that doesn’t mean that Spider-Man’s time in the franchise must end too. The actor has mentioned passing on the torch to another character before, specifically Miles Morales. Taking his podcast comment into account, Holland seems dedicated to setting up the future MCU Spider-Man in the best way possible.

It’s still unknown when Miles Morales might debut in the MCU, but Kevin Feige’s comments now tie the date to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Since Holland wants what is best for the character, there’s no doubt that he’d make sure that his successor’s story made sense. It wouldn’t be a cash grab to attract viewers, but rather a genuine passion project that would continue Spider-Man’s legacy in some way. Holland is guaranteed at least one more Spider-Man project with Spider-Man 4. No matter if he continues as the hero afterward or not, the future of the MCU’s Spider-Man character should be a promising one if he gets a say.
