Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has written a letter to Nigerians against embarking on a protest.
Taking to her Instagram page, she stated that she understands their frustration and concerns regarding the current state of their nation. She stated that she knows how disheartening it is to wake up and see that the price of everything in the market has increased by 100%.
However, she believes that the approach of a nationwide protest on August 1-10, 2024, may not be the most effective method. She made it known that her suggestion isn’t meant to negate the effectiveness of protest or deprive youths of their civil rights. She stated that her suggestion is based on concern and experience with the last EndSARS protest, in which ill-minded individuals were highjacked to perpetrate evil at the expense of many youths’ lives.
Tonto suggested establishing a representative group that can meet with the President and advocate on their behalf. She added that the economic burden affects them all, and it is essential to address these challenges through peaceful and diplomatic channels.
“Sometimes we can be right, but our mode of expression is what matters.
This is an honest plea to all Nigerian youths. Let’s make smart choices”.
In October of 2023, Tonto was unveiled as an All Progressive Congress member by the APC women leader, which didn’t sit well with netizens as they dragged her for being a hypocrite.
Speaking out, Tonto stated that she had learned over the years that impactful leadership comes from visionary leaders offering selfless service to humanity. She made it known that she was all about the progress of her country, Nigeria, and the youths of this great nation at large.
A few months back, Tonto questioned Labor Party presidential aspirant Peter Obi over his unveiling of borehole projects in some Northern states. The movie star questioned if the former governor was truly committed to taking this country to the next level, as she stated that the idea that Nigeria was almost entrusted to him was disheartening. Expressing disappointment, she made it known that she wasn’t trolling him but was dissatisfied with his actions and was in disbelief.
