Tyson Fury believes Oleksandr Usyk was handed a ‘Christmas gift’ by the judges following his rematch defeat in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
In another entertaining fight in Saudi Arabia, all three judges scored the contest 116-112 in favour of Usyk, although many believed that Fury had done enough to win more rounds.
Fury felt he was the aggressor during the fight and felt he had done enough to convince the judges to secure a victory via decision.
After the fight, the 36-year-old also dismissed suggestions that Usyk is the best opponent he’s faced and claims the Ukrainian did not hurt him during the contest.
‘Yeah, I was quite confident, I thought I won that fight again,’ Fury said after suffering the second defeat of his career.
‘I thought I won the both fights but I’ve gone home with two losses on my record now so there’s not much I can do about it, I can just fight my heart out and do the best I can.
‘But again, I’ll always believe until the day I die that I won that fight.
‘Aggressive, on the front foot, listen, sometimes it’s hard to score.
‘I feel a lot of people did, same score, Frank Warren had me three or four rounds up, a lot of people had me up at least two.
‘Listen, I’m not crying over spilt milk, it’s happened now, I know boxing, been in it my whole life, you can’t change any decisions. But I’ll just always feel a little bit hard done by, not a little bit, actually a lot.
‘I think when you don’t get the knockout this is what happens, you can’t guarantee a win.’
Asked if he felt any spirit from Usyk in the ring, Fury replied: ‘I didn’t feel any spirit. I felt a little bit of Christmas spirit in there and I think he got a little Christmas gift from those judges, a Christmas gift early.
‘I felt I won the both fights. I know what I had to do – knock him out to get a decision. But do you know what, it’s boxing.
‘There’s no doubt in my mind I won the fight. That’s it, we can’t cry over it, can’t do much about it.
‘The fight’s done now, it’s in the past, I’ve not got a decision, it is what it is, we move on, that’s it. I go home, I’ve not seen my kids for 12 weeks, it is what it is, you can’t change any decisions, I did the best I could, if I could’ve done any more I would’ve done, and that’s it.’
Asked if Usyk is the best opponent he’s faced in his career, Fury replied: ‘Not really, to be fair.
‘In that fight there he never hurt me once. I’ve got a couple of flesh wounds but they’ll be gone in two or three days, but not a mark on me.
‘I know what’s happened, and that’s it, I go home, there’s not much I can say or do.
‘In my opinion, it’s a Christmas gift, it’s not Oleksandr’s fault.’
