The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has been thrown into darkness following the disconnection of electricity power sources of the university by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company over a reported N172m electricity debt.
THE WHISTLER interacted with some of the students with one speaking on condition of anonymity, saying, “We resumed on the 16th of September. Before going on vacation, we used to have a regular power supply. This time around, it is a total power outage.
“We want this matter to be resolved as soon as possible because when students are fully back, there may be protest.”
Another student said, “This disconnection is affecting us terribly bad. We can’t read under this condition. Let the management settle this electricity matter. We are no longer enjoying our stay on campus.”
It was gathered that EEDC disconnected the university over about N172m debt, which took effect when the new caretaker committee of the university management came on board on 19th of August, 2024.
“It was reported that the new management paid the distribution company the sum of N72m part payment of the debt, but EEDC refused.
