Latest information coming from Nvidia’s board partners indicates that the Ada GPUs found inside GeForce RTX 4060 Ti cards are becoming scarce. This means less market availability which could bring pricing up.
According to Board Channels – via Videocardz, the supply of AD106-based GPUs has decreased significantly. This GPU makes the heart of graphics cards such as the RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, and RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. Due to its wide use, especially on highly sought-after mid-range models, a reduction in its supply could have notable consequences on pricing.
The sources indicate that supply for this GPU variant has substantially decreased during the first two weeks of April. This caused RTX 4060 Ti’s distribution to sit at around 50 units per shipment. And we are not talking about a single brand; it seems that all companies are affected by this shortage. Also, while not as extreme, other RTX 40 series GPUs are in short supply, too.
Now, as for the reason this is happening, your guess is as good as ours. Nvidia could be focusing its wafer capacity on higher-margin products such as the RTX 4090 or its $40k AI behemoth. Or maybe none of the above. Moreover, the RTX 50 series is coming closer, meaning Nvidia will have to stop RTX 40’s production sooner or later.
The good news is that demand for RTX 40 series graphics cards should be lower as we are near a new generation. Most interested customers have already upgraded, while others continue to hold out for what’s next. In other words, don’t FOMO and rush to buy one. There are plenty of alternatives that are discounted regularly. For instance, AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT currently costs $419.99 / £402.
