We don’t even know who the next James Bond is going to be yet – but there are already intense discussions over who will sing the next theme song.

For generations now, each new James Bond theme song has been just as big as each new film, with some of the biggest names in pop attached over the decades.

From Nancy Sinatra to Sam Smith, from Billie Eilish to Adele, from Shirley Bassey to Chris Cornell, the James Bond theme has been sung by a pop legend.

And the next big name touted to sing on the forthcoming 26th Bond film is none other than singing sensation Taylor Swift, which would undoubtedly be a massive coup.

Following her triumph at the VMAs on Wednesday, odds on her being picked to sing the next Bond song have dropped all the way to just 5/1 with some bookmakers.

BetIdeas.com spokesperson Lee Astley said that Taylor was now right up alongside the likes of Harry Styles and Ellie Goulding in the running for the next Bond film.

‘Taylor Swift has been a force to be reckoned with over the past year or so and her seven-award haul at the VMAs last night has her as a brand-new entry in the market to sing the next Bond theme song.’

Lee continued: ‘The American superstar has been given odds of 5/1 for her dulcet tones to record the theme song which will accompany 007’s next appearance on the big screen.

‘Harry Styles still heads the betting at 2/1, with other household names from the UK, Ed Sheeran and Adele, both given a nod in the market at 7/1 and 10/1 respectively.’

Earlier this month, it was speculated that the announcement that will confirm the next James Bond actor could be as close as just two months away.

Ajay Chowdhury, entertainment lawyer and co-author of the Bond history book Some Kind of Hero told The Times: ‘The Bond franchise is like a plot of land and Amazon are building the utilities. Casting is like hanging the curtains.’

He then added that, after the dramatic conclusion of Daniel Craig’s last Bond film, No Time to Die, producers have ‘a concept and a plan to reinvent the franchise’.

This could mean that an announcement may be made in November as producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson receive the Irving G Thalberg award – with a new director speculated to have already been appointed.

Down the years, the Bond theme has produced several major chart hits, but it was Sam Smith’s song Writing’s On the Wall – the theme for 2015’s Spectre – that finally took a Bond song to number one in the UK.

Sam’s feat was quickly repeated, however, by Billie Eilish’s No Time to Die, which saw Billie become the first woman to land a UK number one with a Bond theme.

Before that, Adele’s Skyfall reached number two in 2012, Madonna’s Die Another Day reached number three in 2002, and Duran Duran’s A View to a Kill reached number two in 1987.
