Emmanuel Petit says Aaron Ramsdale must be ‘very unhappy’ at Arsenal and has urged the former Gunners No. 1 to join another Premier League club.

Ramsdale has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium since losing his place in the team to Spanish goalkeeper David Raya.

Ramsdale’s move to Arsenal was met with derision but he soon won over fans, helping the Gunners challenge for the Premier League title in 2022-23.

Given his influence in the team, it was a surprise when Mikel Arteta opted to sign a new goalkeeper and bring Raya to the club last summer.

It initially looked as though Ramsdale and Raya would share a tight battle over the No. 1 jersey but Arteta quickly put his faith in the ex-Brentford man.

Ramsdale’s pedigree as a top Premier League goalkeeper and an England international means he is unlikely to be satisfied with another season on the Arsenal bench.

Petit admits the 26-year-old should leave before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month and believes he can revive his career at Wolves.

Wolves have expressed interest in signing Ramsdale despite already having Portugal goalkeeper Jose Sa in their ranks, while newly-promoted Southampton are also admirers.

‘I would be missing playing football if I was Aaron Ramsdale,’ Petit told Safest Technology Sites. ‘I’d miss the adrenaline, the excitement of a match day when you wake up.

‘Aaron Ramsdale needs to leave, he needs to play, football is not all about money and you need to go enjoy the sport.

‘He must be very unhappy, I hope he gets back on the pitch somewhere else. Wolves how now come in for Aaron and that could be a way into a starting XI in the Premier League.’

Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has also begrudgingly told Ramsdale to leave the club in the pursuit of regular football.

He told the Daily Star: ‘I’ve always said Aaron is too good to be a number two. He’s a fantastic player. He needs to play. Wherever that is, I don’t know.

‘It’s a weird situation. Ideally, you’d love him to stay because that would be great for the club.

‘But he needs to move for his career. And that includes England because, if he’s not playing, he’ll keep dropping down the pecking order with them.’

Arsenal made a strong start to their 2024-25 campaign, beating Wolves 2-0 on the opening weekend, and return to action on Saturday against Aston Villa, managed by their former boss Unai Emery.
