Wayne Lineker was knocked out by a punch to the jaw thrown by a thug during an early-morning confrontation today outside a bar.
The 62-year-old, whose brother is footballer-turned-pundit Gary Lineker, is understood to have been protecting a young female friend when the jab was thrown, which saw him fall unconscious to the ground.
The altercation happened outside the Eden Bar in Ibiza on Wednesday morning at 4am, where Wayne is resident as the owner of beach resort O Beach Ibiza.
Wayne was reportedly out cold for six minutes, lying on the ground with blood pouring out of his mouth, according to eyewitnesses.
He was among a group of around 10 people captured in video footage of the incident, which culminated in him holding his hand out to defend himself as an unidentified man rushes towards him to throw the brutal punch to the chin that felled him.
It’s unknown whether anyone has been arrested over the skirmish.
Witnesses told The Sun that the argument kicked off after the man that threw the punch and his mates began ‘pestering’ Wayne’s female pal.
When Celebs Go Dating star Wayne attempted to leave in a taxi, he squared up to the bar owner alongside his group of friends before slamming the car door shut.
Shortly afterwards he struck Wayne, as captured in the video, sending him to the ground as onlookers gasped – before reportedly fleeing the scene with his pals.
An 18-year-old Welsh student on the scene revealed to the publication: ‘It was horrible – he looked like he could have been dead at one point.
‘Wayne just fell on the floor and the man and his friends ran off. He was completely unconscious.’
‘He wasn’t really speaking much when he did eventually come back round.’
They then stayed to help him before the police turned up.
Wayne hasn’t commented on the incident on social media, where he has been active sharing various promotional stories as well as wishing his son Freddie happy birthday as he turns 20.
He has been estranged from his older brother, Match of the Day host Gary, 63, since 2008, revealing earlier this year that their relationship is ‘not so good’ although he will ‘always be his number one fan’.
