Wayne Rooney was left disappointed with Aaron Wan-Bissaka following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
Luis Diaz put Liverpool ahead at Old Trafford but goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo turned the game around with United looking set for victory.
That was until the 82nd minute as Wan-Bissaka hacked down Harvey Elliott inside the box to give Liverpool a penalty, which Mohamed Salah scored.
United legend Rooney, who feels Salah deserves more credit for his heroics at Liverpool, slammed Wan Bissaka as well as Fernandes as he analysed the penalty.
‘When you go back a bit, Bruno Fernandes is too easy to get past when Joe Gomez is taking his run down the line,’ Rooney told Premier League Productions.
‘Bruno dives in and lets him get past, which is why Aaron Wan-Bissaka then has to come out.
‘If he stays on his feet you don’t get to this situation. But it’s very poor from Wan-Bissaka.
‘It’s sloppy. When you go to ground like that, you run the risk of giving a penalty away.’
Meanwhile, ex-United defender Nemanja Vidic lauded Kobbie Mainoo after the match, comparing him to a Real Madrid superstar.
‘Mainoo has been fantastic,’ Vidic told Premier League Productions. ‘Especially his awareness. He reminds me sometimes of [Luka] Modric.’
