This year saw the return to eight bank holidays a year, after the King’s coronation last year meant an extra Monday off in May.

The next one will be the sixth of the year and lands on the final Monday of August.

There will then be two more for people in England and Wales: Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.

People in Scotland get one more each however: marking St Andrew’s Day in November.

Northern Irelanders also received an additional holiday in July to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne.

So, when is 2024’s next bank holiday? Here’s all you need to know.

When is the next bank holiday?

The next bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland falls on Monday, August 26.

It’s known as the Summer bank holiday, and is typically considered to mark the end of British summertime.

What will the weather be like?

The weather forecast for the bank holiday weekend looks mixed: a mix of sunshine and rain varying widely around the country.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Rudman said: ‘While Friday may start wet for some, it is likely to become much more settled through the weekend, though some showers will continue to feed into northwestern areas at times, and there is a chance of the band of rain lingering over the far southeast of England through Saturday.

‘By the time we get to Sunday, much of England and Wales is likely to be in a drier period of weather, with temperatures around or slightly below average for the time of year with some sunny spells likely, though there’s a chance of some showers glancing western areas at times, particularly the northwest.

‘This more settled period is likely to persist into Monday for much of England and Wales, with only intermittent showers drifting in from the northwest at times.’

Most bus services run their Sunday service on bank holidays, meaning you can still catch a bus, but they might end earlier or have longer gaps in service.
