A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski discusses where Eric (Joseph Quinn) is in A Quiet Place Part II. There has been speculation about Eric’s fate and whether he, or his companion, Frodo the cat, could reappear in the franchise following their survival in the prequel. Thanks to the sacrifice made by Sam (Lupita Nyong’o), Eric and Frodo successfully reach a boat leaving New York City, with the boat’s passengers including Djimon Hounsou’s character, who is the leader of an island colony of survivors in A Quiet Place Part II.
While speaking with CinemaBlend, Sarnoski addressed whether Eric and Frodo may be on A Quiet Place Part II‘s island and part of the society established there. Their presence on the island could work given that they escaped New York City with the same character who becomes the island colony’s leader, although it would be a retroactive change to the sequel. Read Sarnoski’s comments below:
I mean, probably not. But the way that I imagined it was that it’s not like we meet every single person on the island. We get a pretty quick glimpse into that society there.
I don’t think Joe Quinn is secretly in there
. Maybe when we do the George Lucas kind of re-release, we’ll just CG a little Joe Quinn just kind of standing in the background. But no. I mean, maybe? Who knows? Maybe there is a cat. Let’s say if you see a cat anywhere on that island, that was intended to be Frodo all along.
How Eric & Frodo Can Return To The Quiet Place Franchise
A Quiet Place Part III Can Further Connect To The Prequel
A Quiet Place: Day One‘s ending provides a satisfying conclusion for the stories of Sam, Eric, and Frodo, but there is still a meaningful way for Eric and Frodo to return. A Quiet Place Part III is still in the works, and while it will likely focus on Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) and the surviving members of her family, Eric and Frodo can be part of it as well. As Sarnoski suggested, just because they weren’t shown on the island doesn’t mean they aren’t there, but it’s also possible that they are in another location.
Whether it be on the island or in another location, having the Abbott family unite with Eric and Frodo can further connect all the films in the Quiet Place timeline. Eric’s experiences in New York City at the onset of the alien invasion, and the harrowing experiences he has survived since, make him a valuable ally for the Abbott family. Their experiences with the monstrous aliens have been more so in rural areas, and if they join forces with Eric, they would have effective strategies to combat the aliens in a variety of locations.
Between Eric losing Sam and Evelyn losing members of her own family, they can honor the memories of those they’ve lost by cherishing life, working together to fight for survival, and perhaps even defeating the aliens once and for all. As demonstrated in A Quiet Place: Day One, Frodo’s presence automatically raises the stakes, and it would be good to give the Abbott children a lovable pet to care for and look after as they get to know Eric. Bringing all these characters together can make A Quiet Place Part III a rewarding conclusion to the franchise.
