It has been announced that Caroline Flack’s assault charge against her ex-boyfriend Lewis Burton will be reinvestigated by the Met Police, over four years later.
The Met Police announced on April 11 that ‘new witness evidence may be available’ and they were set to reopen the decision to charge the former Love Island presenter for assaulting her boyfriend.
The incident took place in December 2019 and it was alleged that the presenter attacked her boyfriend with an object in the early hours of the morning at her flat in Islington, North London.
It was recommended by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) that she should receive a caution, but Met police appealed and she was instead charged with assault.
Before her death, Flack begged for the assault court case to be dropped. Her mother Chris Flack told police at the time that this case was the reason the TV star died.
Flack took her own life in February 2020 aged 40, just two months after the incident with Lewis that led to her arrest.
After Flack’s death, Lewis took to social media to pen a tribute to his late girlfriend. ‘My heart is broken we had something so special.’
‘I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much I know you felt safe with me you always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking.’
The post concluded: ‘I will be your voice baby I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers nothing will bring you back but I will try make you proud everyday.
‘I love you with all my heart.’
Where is Lewis Burton now?
Lewis Burton, 32, is an ex-professional tennis player, who is now a luxury travel and hospitality entrepreneur with a business called Twenty3Club. The business specialises in curating luxury VIP travel experiences.
Five months after Flack’s death in July 2020, Lewis confirmed that he was in a relationship with Lottie Tomlinson, 25.
Lottie is a social media influencer and the younger sister of One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson. She was just 21 when she met Lewis, who was 28 at the time, at a party and they began dating.
It was thought that the pair bonded over grief as she too had lost her mother and sister in the space of three years when they first met.

In February 2022 the couple announced that they were expecting a child together and on August 18, the couple revealed that their son, Lucky Burton, had been born.
On November 3, 2023, the couple announced that they were engaged in a romantic video shared on Instagram.
The video showed that Lewis proposed to his girlfriend of three years at their home with a trail of red rose petals and candles, with their son joining them for the happy moment.
What has Lewis Burton said about Caroline Flack’s death?
On March 16 2020, a month after Flack’s death, Lewis posted a photo of her on social media with a caption that read: ‘It’s already been a month I love and miss you so much, I never thought that one day I will never be able to see or speak to you again.’
‘I wake up and think you’re going to be laying next to me or you’re going to call me in a minute. It just doesn’t seem real. I wish I could give you a kiss and a cuddle and say everything is going to be ok. I am so grateful I met you I just want to make you proud. X’
On the one-year anniversary of Flack’s death, Lewis made an emotional tribute to the late star on Instagram, sharing a selfie of them together with a caption that read: ‘1 year… I will never forget you.’
Lewis has yet to make a public statement following the announcement that the assault case from 2019 would be re-opened.
