The official streaming release date has been revealed for the James McAvoy-led horror movie Speak No Evil. The movie, which was directed by The Woman in Black‘s James Watkins, is a remake of the 2022 Danish thriller of the same name and follows an American family visiting a British family who they met on vacation, only to learn that all is not as it seems in their isolated country home. The Speak No Evil cast also includes Mackenzie Davis, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough, and Scoot McNairy.
Per Deadline, Speak No Evil has been set to premiere on Peacock on December 6. This streaming release date on the NBCUniversal platform comes roughly two and a half months after the movie’s theatrical premiere on September 13, two months after its digital premiere on October 1, and just two and a half weeks after its physical media release on November 19.
What This Means For Speak No Evil
The Movie Could Struggle To Be Noticed
The Speak No Evil streaming release places it in the at-home marketplace during a time when there will be intense competition in theaters. While the only new release on the weekend of December 6 is the relatively minor A24 sci-fi comedy Y2K, that movie will debut on a weekend inundated with the previous weekends’ blockbusters Gladiator II and Wicked, and Moana 2. The rest of December also sees the release of major big-budget tentpoles including Kraven the Hunter, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, all of which could distract viewers from their at-home options.
Awards season releases are also flooding theaters in December, including
Babygirl
,
A Complete Unknown
,
The Brutalist
, and
The Room Next Door
.
However, this streaming release date is well-timed for the holidays, when many families gather at home and search for online releases to watch together. The movie could also be well-served by this December streaming premiere if it makes any appearances on end-of-year Top 10 lists released by various critics and publications. This is a strong possibility, because the overall tenor of critics’ Speak No Evil reviews was glowing praise, earning the movie a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 84%.
Our Take On The Speak No Evil Streaming Date
Ultimately, the streaming prospects for the 2024 horror movie are still looking good in spite of the competitive December marketplace. Speak No Evil was already sterling success at the box office, grossing $76.7 million against a budget of just $15 million and becoming the highest-grossing Blumhouse release of the year, outpacing titles including Imaginary, Night Swim, and Afraid. Given its critical and commercial response so far, it seems entirely possible that the movie could find a similar level of success in its Peacock streaming release.
