Who Blew Up Charles’ Car & Why In Beauty In Black Season 1?

Warning: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Beauty in Black part 1!

In Beauty in Black part 1, Charles car explodes, raising major questions about who is responsible and why they took such a drastic action. Charles is one of the many compelling characters in Beauty in Black, a show that explores what happens when the world of the billionaire Bellarie family collides with that of the adult entertainment industry. The Netflix show consists of 16 episodes, split into two parts. Beauty in Black part 1’s ending was packed with deadly twists and turns that will keep fans eager for part 2.

Whether Rain is alive or dead in Beauty in Black is one of the biggest questions at the end of part 1, but her life isn’t the only one in question. In the final episode, Mallory finds Charles’ yellow Lamborghini on fire with zero explanation of who blew up the car, who was inside during the attack, and whether Charles died. However, the Tyler Perry show offers solid hints at the answers to these questions, setting up drama for Beauty in Black part 2 – which is expected to premiere in Spring 2025 on Netflix.

Tyler Perry signed a first-look contract with Netflix that allows them first dibs at any unwritten project from the multi-hyphenate filmmaker.

Charles Was Likely Attacked By Norman As Revenge For Ina’s Death

Charles Was Collateral Damage In The Conflict Between Norman And Horace

While the show doesn’t directly confirm what caused the attack on Charles, the most likely explanation is that Norman sought revenge for the death of his wife, Ina. Throughout part 1 of Beauty in Black, Norman becomes increasingly hostile because of his wife’s health after a hit-and-run. He begins suspecting his brother Horace of orchestrating the incident, never picking up on the guilt of his niece, Mallory. The wedge between Norman and Horace continues to expand, leading Horace to sabotage his sister-in-law’s recovery.

He sets up the murder of Charles, Horace’s son, making him feel the same pain and loss.

To keep her safe, Norman puts her in an ambulance and transfers her. Sadly, Ina dies on the way to the new hospital. Rather than taking responsibility for his decision to transfer her or identify the person responsible for the hit-and-run to begin with, he blames Horace for everything – although he still massacres the EMTs and nurses. Instead of killing Horace, Norman decides to make him suffer. He sets up the murder of Charles, Horace’s son, making him feel the same pain and loss.

Who Died In Beauty In Black’s Car Explosion?

Charles Is Seemingly Alive In The Teaser For Beauty In Black Part 2

At the end of Beauty in Black part 1, the show teased the upcoming episodes, which show Charles very much alive. The likelihood that he escaped men armed with guns and a car fire is pretty slim, so the chances are high that someone else was driving Charles’ car. The two individuals most likely in the driver’s seat during the attack are Varney or Salvo.

Although the Madea franchise is Tyler Perry’s most recognizable work, he’s demonstrated time and again his proclivities for diverse storytelling.

Varney could have easily driven Charles’ yellow Lamborghini since he’s his boyfriend, which would be a tragic loss. Alternatively, Salvo, the dancer at the strip club, could have stolen Charles’ keys and driven away in the car to rob him. This seems the more likely possibility since the end of Beauty in Black part 1 hints that Salvo is trying to rob Charles’ home, and Charles was drunk enough not to notice his keys getting stolen.
