In case you hadn’t heard, Bridgerton is back. Part one of season three dropped on Thursday night, with part two set for release in June, and fans are of course, delighted.
The first instalment of the hit Netflix series focused on the story of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her whirlwind romance with The Duke (Rege-Jean Page), while season two focused on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Johnathan Bailey) love story with Miss Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Season three has moved Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington to the centre of the story, and her romance with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) now the show’s main focus.
Meanwhile, Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and John Stirling (Victor Alli) are growing closer after Francesca made her debut to Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).
Who does Francesca marry in season 3?
Only half of Bridgerton season three is currently available on Netflix, so it’s not yet clear who Francesca will marry, or whether she’ll get married at all.
As viewers have seen in the first few episodes, Francesca might have debuted to Queen Charlotte but she prefers to spend time alone, chiefly with her piano.
Despite this, episode three saw a chance encounter between the second-youngest Bridgerton and a potential eligible bachelor John Stirling.
They were then formally introduced in the final episode of part one, but the first part of the season finished before their potential relationship could fully develop.
However, it seems the two will get on rather well due to their shared love of bothmusic and a bit of peace and quiet.
Is it the same as what happens in the book?
*Warning: potential Bridgerton spoilers.*
Francesca’s story in the novels upon which Bridgerton is based – Julia Quinn’s eight-part series – doesn’t fully come into view until the sixth book, When He Was Wicked.
Your last warning before spoiler territory: Francesca and John do get married in the books.
They are already married by the time of the ‘present day’ in book six, which means their wedding may take place either in the next four episodes, season four, or season five.
However, her story in that book is told in separate timelines: her first meeting with John, the period just before their second wedding anniversary, and six years after their first meeting, when she considers marrying for a second time.
After their marriage, Francesca and John leave for Scotland to raise a family, which means the characters may leave the show for a time before we see the conclusion to their story.
So, the show is currently moving parts of Francesca’s story forward so that we get to see Francesca and John’s relationship from the very beginning. Should Bridgerton reach its sixth season, we’ll likely have seen their entire story together.
Sadly, tragedy strikes just two years into their marriage, with John being struck down by a brain aneurysm. He retires to bed complaining of a headache and never wakes up again.
Who plays Francesca in the cast?
Francesca was introduced in the first season of Bridgerton as the second-youngest of the Bridgerton siblings, played at the time by Ruby Stokes.
Ruby then played Francesca throughout the second season as her character in more and more episodes, increasing her total appearances count from two to five.
However, ahead of season three, it was announced that Ruby would be stepping down from the role after being cast in another Netflix series, Lockwood & Co.
Taking her place is Hannah Dodd, who has already made a name for herself on Netflix after starring in Enola Holmes 2, alongside Millie Bobby Brown.
