Who Is The Guy Who Created The Beast In Arcane

The second act of Arcane season 2 introduced a major new player to the League of Legends show in Warwick, and it also revealed more about the man who created him, Singed. The ending of Arcane season 2, Act 2, had several major developments, from proving that Vander was turned into Warwick to showing Jayce killing Viktor, but Singed also had quite a bit to do in the new batch of episodes. Along with his expanded role and screen time, Singed also had some major reveals about his backstory and origins.

Singed is one of several League of Legends characters that appear in Arcane, but he’s somewhat special among the rest. Singed was one of the first League of Legends champions ever designed, but his Arcane counterpart hasn’t yet matched his in-game persona. Arcane season 2, Act 2 has brought him significantly closer, however, and it also filled in some of the game’s gaps surrounding Singed and his backstory. Here’s everything you need to know about Singed, from his role in Arcane to just how dangerous he is to Piltover and all of Runeterra.

Singed’s Role In Arcane, Explained

Singed Is A Mad Scientist Who Uses Anyone He Can For His Experiments

Singed is one of the original characters in Arcane, and one of the few remaining Zaunites that made their first appearance in the series premiere. As such, he has a fairly extensive history. Chronologically, one of the first things Singed did in Arcane season 1 was introducing Viktor to his personal project, a mutated axolotl named Rio. Singed seems to have used Rio’s mutation to later create Shimmer, the drug that Silco used to take over the Underground and turn ordinary people into hulking monsters. His burnt (or singed) appearance is due to the explosion Powder caused at the cannery, which ignited Singed’s supply of Shimmer.

Years later, Singed played an instrumental role in some other Arcane characters’ stories. After her battle with Ekko on the bridge, Silco brought a grievously wounded Jinx to Singed and demanded he heal her. Singed did so, but he used a variant of Shimmer that gave Jinx her glowing red eyes and enhanced speed. He also spoke to Viktor, his old apprentice, and gave him the Shimmer he needed for his body to withstand the Hex Core’s healing, which turned Viktor into the Machine Herald. Throughout all his experiments, Singed was also experimenting on Vander, and he eventually turned him into the werewolf-like creature Warwick.

Singed In League of Legends, Explained

Singed Is A Tank Champion Described As “The Mad Chemist” In League Of Legends

In League of Legends, which is set after Arcane in their shared timeline, Singed is known as “the Mad Chemist.” Much like his character in the show, Singed was obsessed with unethical experiments, and he would do anything to advance his research. Along with creating Warwick, Singed also captured several pairs of people, like Hadri Spillwether and Palo, in a series of experiments that tried to link their minds. Most of his test subjects died agonizing deaths. To Singed, the entire world was meant to facilitate his experiments, and their suffering meant nothing to him.

Zaun vs Piltover: History, Champions & Leaders

Netflix’s Arcane surrounds the nations of Piltover and Zaun, each with an extensive history, powerful leaders, and League of Legends champions.

In League of Legends, Singed is a tank character who carries a massive shield and a vat of chemicals on his back. As “the Mad Chemist,” most of Singed’s abilities revolve around his chemical weaponry and experiments. One of Singed’s abilities in League of Legends, Poison Trail, leaves a cloud of noxious gas behind him and damages any enemies that breathe the gas. Another, Mega Adhesive, sees Singed throw some sort of superglue substance to slow down his enemies, while Insanity Potion gives Singed increased damage and speed. It’s fairly clear to see how Singed’s in-game abilities influenced his role in Arcane.

Arcane Delves Further Into Singed’s Origins

Singed Was Formerly Dr. Reveck & His Experiments Are Trying To Save His Daughter

Aside from a few notes about Singed’s time at the Piltover Academy and his criticism of Hextech, which led to his expulsion, League of Legends didn’t dive too deeply into his origins. Arcane, however, has dedicated much more time into investigating the man Singed was before he became a mad chemist. Arcane revealed that Singed was once known as Dr. Reveck, and that he conducted all of his experiments to save his daughter’s life. He also entered into his alliances with Silco and Ambessa specifically to ensure he could have the funding and resources he needed to both keep her alive and try to cure her.

Singed’s Research Can Create Devastating Weapons & He’s Willing To Give It To Anyone

Singed’s experiments didn’t just directly affect the characters in Arcane, though, he changed the entire world of Runeterra. Singed not only created Warwick, a beast he described as “Apex Shimmer,” he offered him up to the Noxians and entered into an alliance with Ambessa. If the Noxians, especially a warmonger like Ambessa, get Warwick and Singed’s research into creating more beasts like him, they would be able to take over all of Runeterra. Singed is by far the most deadly genius in Arcane, simply by virtue of how thoroughly his creations could change the world for the worse.

Singed’s relationship with Ambessa and the Noxians also proves another deadly part about the Mad Scientist: he’s capable of anything. He’ll work with anyone who can let him continue his research and get closer to saving his daughter, and he doesn’t care what he has to burn down to make it happen. Additionally, if Singed survives Arcane season 2, his willingness to work with foreign nations means he could pop up in an upcoming League of Legends show, one set far away from Piltover. Depending on how everything shakes out, Singed could be one of the most important people in Runeterra for a very long time.

Who Is Vander? Vi & Jinx’s Adoptive Father Explained

Vander is an important character in Arcane, from his history with Vi, Jinx, and Silco to his journey in season 1 and developments in Arcane season 2.

Aside from possible future League of Legends spinoffs, Singed will likely still have a major role to play in Arcane season 2, Act 3. There’s no telling whether Vander survived Isha’s sacrifice, but if he did, Singed will likely turn him into a war beast for Ambessa. If he died, Singed could still put his talents to use for the Noxians by either creating another Warwick or creating some of the poisonous chemical weapons he’s known to use in League of Legends. No matter what happens, though, Singed will likely continue to be a major player in Arcane and League of Legends.
