Wimbledon fans braced for mixed weather this week with rain expected | UK News

Wimbledon kicked off yesterday and for the most part tennis fans enjoyed a day of dry weather with some bursts of sunshine.

Overnight queuers could be seen wrapped in blankets to stay warm early yesterday morning, but a little later visitors lay out on the grass as the sun showed its face.

More sun is forecast for London and the south east this week, but in true British summer-style, the days ahead are set to be a mixed bag, with some showers also expected.

This morning will be cloudy with some light rain and drizzle possible, the Met Office predicts.

It should be be brighter and drier in the afternoon – when Andy Murray plays his first match – with the odd shower possible in the evening, it added.

Temperatures are unlikely to rise above 21°C.

Cloud and some outbreaks of rain are forecast for Wednesday, while Thursday should be breezy with sunny spells.

There’s a good chance of more rain on Friday, mixed with more spells of sunshine.

The weekend currently looks dry for London, with both cloud and sun forecast and.

Temperatures will continue to hover around 21°C until a potential rise to a slightly more balmy 25°C early next week.

Further north in England and into Scotland a dry and bright start is expected today, with some rain due in the afternoon.

Temperatures will likely be a few degrees cooler than the south, sitting at around 18°C.

Wednesday and Thursday meanwhile will see more showers, some sun and a fair bit of wind in parts.

Wales will see a dry and bright Tuesday, with some rain possible in northern parts, according to the Met Office.

A breezy day on Wednesday is forecast with patchy rain. Drier and brighter skies are set to return on Thursday though still breezy, followed by a wet and windy end to the week on Friday.

Northern Ireland, meanwhile, should start off dry and bright today with sunny spells.

However, through the morning light showers across the northwest are expected.

Cloud and more persistent rain may spread east later in afternoon, with a maximum temperature 17 °C.

The outlook for Wednesday an Thursday is unsettled, often breezy with showers or some longer spells of rain. Winds are set to be strongest on Thursday.
