Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to introduce some incredible characters to James Gunn’s DCU, with incredibly talented actors cast in the roles. The theatrical side of the DCU is set to kick off in 2025 with the release of Superman, but equally exciting and in another part of that universe is the Supergirl movie set to be released in 2026. While Clark Kent is usually the Krypton who gets the spotlight in DC stories, his older cousin, Kara Zor-El is usually ignored or underappreciated.
Hopefully, the 2026 movie can finally turn that around and give fans of the comics a Supergirl that is worth celebrating. The story of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, is complex, and occasionally muddled in time, but with the DCU movie drawing inspiration from the recent Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series of comics that were published between 2021 and 2022, there is a chance to make the character an exciting and important part of the narrative, comparable to her cousin, and capable of being a leader within the DCU. But, that requires the right casting to ensure the project’s success on the big screen.
Milly Alcock As Kara Zor-El, A.K.A. Supergirl
Upright (2019-2022), House Of The Dragon (2022-2024)
First things first, the movie needs to have the right person in the titular role, playing Supergirl. Fortunately, young Milly Alcock seems like a perfect fit for the hero who is just on the verge of adulthood, and while they espouse to be a true hero, the character has a darker side. The comics that the movie draws inspiration from sees Supergirl develop into a hero, but before they can live up to the legacy and legend of Superman, Kara has some rough edges that she needs to hone.

Which upcoming DCU project are you most excited for?
The new DC Universe from DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safan is about to begin with Creature Commandos as its first show at the end of 2024 and Superman as the first movie in 2025. While I’m very excited to see what Superman has in store, I think I’m most excited to see Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and how it will adapt such an iconic story, as well as Lanterns which is set to give Hal Jordan a second shot on-screen while also giving John Stewart his live-action debut.
Milly Alcock is best known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. The Game of Thrones prequel series saw the young woman who would grow to be a fierce and strong ruler of the House Targaryen. While her eventual rule was short-lived, the young princess was assertive, and she ensured her voice was heard. This intensity and youthfulness will surely help to define the character of Kara in Supergirl. However, Kara is decidedly more heroic and hopeful than Rhaenyra. Alcock may be young and slightly inexperienced, but that also means she can be molded to perfectly embody the role.
Matthias Schoenaerts As Krem Of The Yellow Hills
Red Sparrow (2018), Django (2022-2023), The Regime (2024)
In the role of the primary antagonist, Matthias Schoenaerts will be playing the nefarious Krem of the Yellow Hills. This space pirate is an unhinged and murderous loose cannon who initially works for the King. However, his reckless nature, and his quick temper lead to darker and seedier forms of employment. Krem kicks off the action in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow when the villainous Krem kills a young father who fails to laugh at his joke. Evidently, his fragile ego and the willingness to use excessive force make him a real threat.
Krem was a character who first debuted in the
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
series of comics, where he also ultimately dies.
Schoenaerts has had a number of notable roles in his career, which has taken him from a small-time actor in independent Belgian films and shorts to someone who now shares the screen with some of the most talented and revered actors in Hollywood. In 2024, he appeared opposite Kate Winslet in HBO’s The Regime, where he plays a devoted, but also somewhat unhinged bodyguard to the ruler of a nondescript European nation. His talents at portraying characters with this villainous side and a short fuse make him ideal for the role of Krem.
Eve Ridley As Ruthye Marye Knoll
3 Body Problem (2024)
Another incredibly talented young woman who has made waves in Hollwood despite her age, Eve Ridley, was born in 2011, and is still just breaking into Hollywood with her part in Supergirl set to be her theatrical debut. But she has proven her incredible ability in the recent hit Netflix series, 3 Body Problem, where she played Follower. And, with Ridley set to play a major part in the upcoming movie (via Deadline), Supergirl will be the opportunity to cement her success as a Hollywood star.

Supergirl Movie Villain Details Set It Up To Be DC’s Own Version Of Keanu Reeves’ 86% RT Score Success
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow casts its main villain, supporting the idea that Kara Zor-El will have similar motivations to a certain action hero.
Ruthye Marye Knoll is a brand-new character in DC Comics, once again only being introduced within the comics that this movie is based on in 2021. Ruthye is the daughter of the farmer who Krem brutally and thoughtlessly murdered. While she is left without a father or a clear path ahead, Ruthye’s dogged determination leads her to find someone who can help avenge her father’s death, and through good fortune, she meets Supergirl. The character is fierce, determined, and prepared to take on the villain, despite her clear disadvantage in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
