A woman allegedly tried to run her boyfriend over when he attempted to break up with her while they drove together to couple’s therapy.
Veronica Roleen Gast, 30, and her boyfriend were en route to a session to help their relationship when he said he wanted to break up and asked her to take him home, according to an affidavit obtained by Crime Online.
Gast reacted by allegedly stopping the car in the middle of the road and demanding that he get out.
Her unnamed boyfriend stepped out and walked in front of the car toward the sidewalk, at which point the troubled couple locked eyes ‘like you would with a bus driver’, he said, per the affidavit.
Gast allegedly proceeded to step on the gas pedal and ‘floored’ it toward him.
She struck him on August 10 shortly before 1pm, said the Fergus Falls Police Department.
Her boyfriend went over the hood of the vehicle and shattered the windshield. He sustained a right elbow laceration.
But Gast had a different story for authorities.
‘The defendant admitted that as she was pulling away, she hit the victim with her vehicle. The defendant said she slowed down and stopped to call the police,’ states a police report obtained by Law & Crime.
‘The defendant said she was in shock at hitting the victim, so she did not stop right away, but let off the gas.’
She also denied locking eyes with her boyfriend.
Gast has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault, criminal vehicular operation, bodily harm, domestic assault and gross negligence.
She was being held at the Otter Tail Detention Facility in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, which is about 180 miles northwest of Minneapolis. Gast was released as of last Wednesday.
The couple had spent the morning arguing and that escalated to the boyfriend calling for a breakup, police said. They lived together and had been dating for roughly a year.
Gast was charged about seven months after a woman was found guilty of fatally running over her fiancé with her car in Rode Heath, Cheshire, in the UK, following an argument over party flirting.
