Need some inspo for your next night out? Why not head to your local supermarket?
When 26-year-old Holly Howes hit the club in the ‘sustainable’ outfit of her dreams, she didn’t think it would become one her biggest fashion faux pas of all-time. But that was exactly the case.
In an attempt to put together an eco-conscious look, Holly sourced a stylish white and grey-striped shirt from a charity shop that she thought was the ultimate Friday night get-up.
‘I’m feeling good, I’m feeling hot, I’m feeling powerful, I’m on the Overground, got Brat [Charli xcx’s new album] in my ears, that life is beautiful…,’ she recalled on TikTok.
It was only upon closer inspection that Holly discovered that the shirt was, in fact, part of the Waitrose uniform. The tell-tale sign? Oh, you know, just the brand’s logo, which was etched onto the cuff.
‘I’m going up to the bartender asking for drinks with these on my wrist’, she explained, showcasing the sleeve of the shirt. ‘I literally look like I’m on my way to do a f***ing night shift!’
We’ve heard of work-to-night outfits, but this interpretation is perhaps a tad too literal.
In the hilarious video, Holly went on to describe the mortifying scene in more detail: ‘I’m in the club, I’m dancing, having a good time. There’s a sexy DJ and I’m hoping he’s looking at me back,’ she said. ‘He probably thinks I’ve just finished my shift at the cheese counter!’
She added: ‘This is a gorgeous look, but it’s not the look I’m going for.’
To make matters worse, when Holly got complimented on her ‘fit by a fellow reveller, she dropped the bombshell that they likely would not be able to recreate this ‘vintage’ look.
‘Go to Waitrose Holloway road, everyone’s wearing one!’ She exclaimed.
Naturally, people in the comments poked fun of the mishap.
@rayofsunshinepilates wrote on Holly’s post: ‘I used to wear that – once I even wore it to the club with a bag of reduced goods.’
Another user, @Felixbottom, admitted: ‘That could very well be my uniform – I forgot to return my uniform and ended up putting it in a charity bag.’
What’s next? A trendy purple and orange Sainsbury’s fleece? A white Morrison’s fish counter hat?
