Mercedes Mone is officially All Elite and her debut on the Big Business special edition of AEW Dynamite is already making waves.
The so-called CEO, best known to WWE fans as Sasha Banks, made her first appearance for the rival promotion after months of speculation and she looked like an absolute superstar from the get-go.
However, some fans couldn’t help but notice her new theme song had more than a passing similarity to current Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER.
Back when the Ring General went by the name WALTER, he used Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 as his entrance theme, while he and Imperium still use part of the piece of classical music as an intro.
Social media was buzzing about the similarities in the theme, with Mercedes’ version a clear remix with ‘CEO’ chants and a unique beat over the top.
‘Mercedes Mone AEW theme song is kind of a remix of Symphony No. 9,’ pointed out one user, with another fan asking: ‘Why does Mone Mercedes theme song remind me of Gunther’s song. (sic)’
‘Lol they just stole Imperium theme song for that Mercedes debut,’ added a third viewer, while someone else laughed: ‘I can’t believe Mercedes stole Gunther’s theme song lol #AEWBigBusiness’
Not everyone was critical of the move, with a fifth person saying: ‘Mercedes Mone’s new theme is a take off of GUNTHER’s Symphony No 9 intro into something original. It’s so fire #AEWBigBusiness’
And the Ring General appears to have caught wind of the situation, as he shared a photo of himself beaming making his own entrance midway through the show.
‘So much drama,’ he captioned the tweet, with fans adamant it was a reference to the chatter about the theme song.
Mercedes made a real impact with her AEW debut, coming across as a bona fide superstar and delivering a rousing speech to her hometown crowd of Boston, with WWE stars Tamina, Bayley and Naomi all watching on from the stands.
‘If you only knew how much tonight means to me… how much wrestling means to me,’ she said, before giving a shout out to her childhood hero Eddie Guerrero.
She added: ‘AEW is the only place where this revolution can be global.’
In the main event, Riho faced off with Willow Nightingale, who has history with Mercedes after the latter suffered a career threatening injury in their match last year.
After Willow got the win, Julia Hart and Skye Blue went on the attack before AEW’s newest star made the save, with the rivals turned allies standing tall as the show went off the air.
Her AEW debut means Mercedes is finally back in a major US wrestling promotion after she and her former tag team partner Naomi walked out on WWE during an episode of Raw in May 2022.
There respective futures have been the source of much speculation, especially after Mercedes recently admitted she is certain she’ll be back in WWE ‘one day’.
For now, she is ready to make waves in AEW, while Naomi did return to WWE after taking over TNA Wrestling before her Royal Rumble comeback in January this year.
AEW Dynamite airs Wednesday nights at 1am on TrillerTV.
