WWE fans have called for the WarGames match to be ‘shelved’ in 2025 after a series of devastating announcements on SmackDown.
Last weekend, the iconic and brutal bout was part of the Survivor Series premium live event for the third year in a row but Bronson Reed, Tanga Loa and Jimmy Uso are all out injured.
The three superstars have been a huge focal point of WWE television in recent months, but now they’ll be on the sidelines after getting hurt in the same WarGames bout.
Uso suffered a broken toe during the match, as confirmed by his brother Jey Uso in the press conference immediately after the show last Saturday.
Loa is out of action indefinitely with a torn bicep, while Reed could miss several months after breaking his foot when he jumped off the top of the cage.
It’s been confirmed he will have to undergo surgery following the injury, which came as he leaped from the top through a table and landed badly on his ankle.
While injuries are part and parcel of professional wrestling, no one likes to see the superstars getting hurt, which has caused some people to question whether WarGames should be an annual event.
Fans love the brutality of the bout, and this year’s women edition hasn’t seen the same injury numbers as the men’s, but there are still some concerns.
‘Yeah after all those injuries they need to retire War Games for a while. Not only has it run its course but causing injuries too,’ argued @Razhazevil5 on X.
‘Low-key they need to change up the formula for Survivor Series if injuries keep happening at War Games, it’s not gonna go well for other manias,’ added @VLONE1SHIRT
‘Maybe they need to table war games for a while,’ agreed @rasslinarchive, with @RhodesKotaEra saying: ‘WarGames should take a break next year, 3 quite serious injuries in one night is extremely upsetting.’
And @luq04293957 wrote: ‘At this point, just end the wargames and go back to traditional 5 vs 5 Survivor Series match, I don’t care it won’t be fun like wargames, I rather have all wrestlers healthy and safe.’
However, other fans argued that ‘injuries happen’, and the mentality of most WWE superstars mean they are ‘willing’ to put their bodies on the line for the crowd.
‘2 of the injuries came from dives off the top of the cage, hell you can catch an injury diving off the second rope so yeah too many injuries in one but then again it is called War Games,’ said @Logik_AL.
And @Pixelmaster_211 added: ‘Not that I’m trying to push wrestlers to get injured. But injuries happen, and these men and women are probably willing to put up the risk of that against putting a fantastic performance for the audience.’
Bronson – who has been on a phenomenal run in 2024 – has taken a defiant approach on social media, resharing clips of his brutal dive from the top.
‘Still walked outta that b**ch,’ he tweeted.
On Instagram, he added: ‘S**t like this, the pain of it, you gotta be careful ’cause it’ll eat you alive if you let it.’
